Lear r. Kempner:
Again the United Fund is going to need every t;pe of plea in its
endeavor to reach goal by November 7th.
Y1PE5 CF TE PECPLE" letters are read by every one. You are well
known and respected by this Community. I humbly ask your assist-
ance, in that you write a letter for "PENS OF THE PEOPLE" column
touching on these points, or similar ones: A - The support of
United Fund Organizations cannot be done by a few; stressing that
every gift is important, and needed. B - Failure to reach a goal
is not like losing a football contest, it means actually less
food, clothing, shelter, medical care, etc., for those who desper-
ately need this help. C - Giving is a privilege enjoyed only in
/America by all; the rich, the middle-income and the poor. Giving
eliminates the barriers of society for the betterment of humanity.
I would appreciate your letter being mailed to r. C. E. Mc Clelland,
Editor of the Galveston News, with a copy to the United Fund office,
by Saturday, November 1st.
With much appreciation, I am
wincerely,
Mrs. Barthelm/opkins
