My dear Aaclean:
I received with real appreciation copy of the magazine PARADISE
with your card attached. It is very nice indeed to be thought of by our
friends.
I am not too optimistic about the future. Orthodox politics
have become suicide economics and the method used in the halls of congress,
in the marts of trade, seem permeated with the spirit of self-interest.
Confusion is spread by our politicians who are unable to offer any
solution. In our national affairs there is lacking the courage that
should prompt confidence; intellectual honesty is weakened thereby.
Pressure groups seek advantages for their own members regardless of
deterrents to general prosperity. World progress is blocked by our
so-called allies, no less than by our foes.
So at the conclusion of this year let us hope, pray and work
for an era of peace on earth, for the restoration of personal regard
for our obligations as well as our rights, for the ostracism and punish-
ment of traitors and spies without seeking to establish guilt by im-
plication or invading the realm or denying the perquisites of freedo.
With best regards to you and Mrs. Maclean in which mrs. K apner
joins me, believe me
Cordially yours,11
