Shirley Bates at Glenwood for
several years. Nancy also did
bookings for the Glenwood
show.
After leaving the Glenwood
show, Jim and Nancy, along
with Billy and Pat Maddox,
opened the Big "G” Jamboree
at the Trinity Street Gym in
Gilmer. A couple of years later
the Ivys decided to get out of
the,opry business totally, and
the show was sold.
But their retirement from
the music business didn’t last
long, and only a few months
later Jim was on stage at the
Gladewater Opry.
“We’re real proud of the
award," Ivy said, “but we did
not do this by ourselves. With-
out all the people involved —
the band, entertainers, and
supporters — we would not
hve won this award.
“We’re often asked why we
stay here, and sometimes we
really don’t know,” he,said.
“But then some youngster
comes in, or someone comes in
with a encouraging word, and
we realize why we need to keep
going. We’ve made lots of new
