Nearly 53 miles of highways
in Upshur County are among
286 miles of Northeast Texas
highways which will receive
new surfaces during 1998 with
a contract awarded this month
by the Texas Department of
Transportation.
TxDOT approved a bid of
$5.9 million from Calrk Con-
struction Co. Inc. of San Anto-
nio to seal coat highways in
nine counties located in the
Atlanta district, which in-
cludes Upshur County.
The highways in the county
slated for seal coating include:
• FM 852, from FM 2088 to
Texas 154, 14.8 miles.
• FM 555, from Texas 155 to
Texas 154, 14.8 miles.
• FM 556, from FM 2088 to
the Camp County line, 3.5
miles.
• Texas 300, from U.S. 271
to FM 3358 South, 9.2 miles.
• FM 2685, from Texas 154
to 1 1 mile north of U.S. 80,
10.6 miles.

ting with fixed seating. This
can be expanded to 1,105 us-
ing telescopic seating for 700.
The banquet hall will seat 500,
with smaller areas for other
uses.
The Civic Center is also
home for the Upshur County
Arts Council, and was the site
of the popular concert by the
Light Crust Doughboys con-
cert Sept 18, which led off the
season’s performances.
The second in this season’s
Arts Council series will be the
Lone Star Ballet, which will
perform 15 styles of dance at 7
p m Thursday, Nov. 13.
The Lone Star Ballet is the
same dance troupe that per-
formseach summer in the Palo
Duro Canyon outdoor drama,
“Texas." In their Gilmer per-
formance, they will demon-
strate a wide variety of dance
styles, including Jazz, Ballet,
Folkorico, Tap, Irish Jig and
Clogg.
