A CALL TO JEWISH PARENTS
T HF, time has come to talk of better things . . . of the fast approaching days of
p(1-ice ... of the free world of tomorrow wherein the Biblical ideals of justice and
the brotherhood of man shall once again prevail - if we are mindful of the teachings
and lessons of the past.
In tomorrow's world - the world which will emerge after victory - the ideals of
human freedom, justice, righteousness and brotherhood proclaimed by the prophets of
Israel will again guide mankind to a better life. In tomorrow's world, too, Jews must
find happiness and self-fulfillment both as individuals and as a people.
In America where the Jewish heritage of liberty is part of the nation's basic
symbol of government, our Jewish children can bring to world Jewry the grace and
position to which it is entitled - a standing among the free nations of the world, as
enduring as the ancient Jewish traditions of culture and morality.
Only by a truly complete Jewish life can your children serve as instruments in
the making of this better world. Thus only can they validly claim the right to partici-
pate in the great task which lies ahead. The art of living as a Jew, as well as Jewish
survival as a .people, rests four-square upon the Jewish school, supplementing the
public school. Jewish education is the channel through which the values common to
both Judaism and Americanism can be passed on to your sons and daughters.
In brief, the unmistakable obligation of Jewish education today, as never be-
fore, is:
to bring recognition of the synthesis of the ideals of Jewish religion and
American democracy;
to transmit the knowledge of their principles and institutions to our growing
generation;
to build better Americans and better Jews at a time when we need both;
to serve as an instrument in the making of a better world.
Your children carry in their young souls treasures of dormant Jewish ability and
will-power. Fortify them with the "spiritual oxygen" so vital to their wholesome
growth and development as good Jews and Americans. This is no time for shoulder
shrugging..4nroll your children, today, in a good Jewish school. If you fail to do so
now, the opportunity lost cannot be regaineI
Jewish Education Month, beginning September 10th, and culminating in Jewish
Education Week, which ends October 22nd, has been set aside this year as a special
period to call attention of Jewish parents throughout the country to see to it that their
children be given the opportunity of an adequate Jewish education. Heed this call!
Enroll your son or daughter in a good Jewish school NOW.
If your child already attends a Jewish school, give him the opportunity to finish
his course. He cannot receive the full advantage of a Jewish education if he remains
at school only a short span of time. Keep your child in school until graduation.
And, if you would be in earnest, do not place the entire burden of Jewish educa-
tion upon the Jewish school. It is even more needful that parents educate themselves,
as well as procure education for their children.
Thus, shall you help to cement the everlasting partnership between your faith,
your children and yourselves. Thus, too, shall Israel's treasures of yesterday be
linked, in your children, to a more glorious Israel in the world of tomorrow.
