And, what is really interesting
about it is that it wasn’t used in a
scientific article or a technical piece.
This eiplanation was actually
secondary in that it appealed la one
of the humor sections called
Campus Comedy.
I really didn't think the story was
all that funny, but did think the
explanation of a segment of tme
known as a nanosecond (one-billion-

FACTS, FIGURES, statistics and

many different things, whether said
knowledge had any real meaning to

to challenge them in their role as
builders of a new civilization of
peace.
A number of youth members of
various communities within the
Victoria Diocese will take part in

Said explanation waa that It the
average person could take Me step
each nanosecond, that person could
circle the earth about 20 times in
only one second.
CONSIDERING THAT the earth
is nearly 25,000 miles around at the
equator, that would be stepping out
right lively to say the least.
W wonder just what kind of
walking shoes a person would need
for such a stroll?
Come to think of U. I wonder how
far one could hate traveled during
the time it was taken to put these
• pointless thoughts down on paper?
I fact. I really wonder what
anybody in his right mind would be
wasting such a valuable cbmodity of
precious life as time to on such an
insignificant thing as a nanosecond?
{ - In fact, forgot I ever mentioned a

Some explanations are strictly
figurative and are not to be in any
way taken in a literal sense.
Probably the first of this type of
explanation I can remember hearing
was the one about how long eternity
is. Do you remember that one?
As best as I can remember, it
went something like this, "If a fly
picked up a single grain of sand on a
beach and flew it to the moon and
kept making return trips until all the
sand on all the beaches of the earth
was gone, eternity would have only
just begun."
Some time back I made mention
of the speed of a lazer light used in
a new photographic process. That
explanation was some such compari-
son dealing with the speed of a jet
airplane which was mind boggling,
but was in relation to real things.
Even being related to real things, it
was hard to believe, about as hard
to believe as any real explanation I
have ever heard.
•••••
THAT WAS it was, until I read the
recent issue of Reader’s Digest. It
has an explanation in it that tops all
I have ever heard before.

"We consider showing the
animals to be a co-curricular part of
the course for the vocational
agriculture students and, as far as
we are concerned, they can show
their animals." Mill said.
The same interpretation of the
ruling has been made by several
other school districts, including
Cuero and Victoria.
In many cases, the animal
projects were purchased and the
youths have been raising their
animals for nearly a year in
preparation for the livestock show,
