colony usually dies, so that an entirely
new corps of workmen must be re-
cruited Not every spider will do-
only large fat fellows that spin a tough
round threa are suitable.
"SIngularly enough the girls who
have charge of the spiders in this Eng-
lish factory are not in the least nfraid
of them or thefr bftes. On the contrary
they regard them as pets. are able to
tell them apart and to call them hy
nicknames which humorously describe
their appearance or their peculiar hab-

An Ordinance Amending Section 23 of
an Ordinance Entitled, "An Ordi-
nance to Regulate Traffic in and
Along the Streets and Ways of the
City of Austin, and Establishing
Rules of the Road, and Prescribing
Penalties for Its Violations," Passed
October 23rd, 1911.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF' AUSTIN, TEXAS:
That Section 23 of an. Ordinance en-
titled "An Ordinance to regulate traffic
in and along the strects and ways of
the City of Austin, and establishing
rules of the road, and prescribing pen-
alties for its violation," be and the same
is hereby amended so that it shall read
as follows:
, Section 23. That no person shall leave
a vehicle hitched or stanqing in front
of any place of business or property
without the consent of the owner or
occupant of said property, save and
except that during hours of religious
worship or of social meetings or en-
tertainments, and for one hour prior to
the opening of said religious or social
meetings or entertainments, and for
one hour after the closing of said ie-
ligious or social meetings or entertain-
ments. it shall be lawful for any per-
son to hitch his horse, with Or without
being attached to a vehicle, to any post
in front of any private property, or
park his automobile in front of any
private property, except upon Congres?

block from the church or lodge where
said religious or social meeting or en-
tertainment is being held; provided
that the privileges of hitching or park-
ing granted by this ordinance shall not

The 399th anniversary of th® Protes-
tant Reformation, as marked by Martin
Luther’s act of nailing the theses to
the door at Wittenberg, was observed
Tuesday by tho Lutheran churches of
Austin, in common with those through-
out the world.
St. Manins Lutheran Church, the
Swedish Lutheran Church and the
United Luther League, representing
both congregations, joined in a “Refer-
mation. festival" t the latter church,
where a gathering which crowded the
building listened to addresses and
music. The principal address was by
Rev. Gustav Stearns, chaplain of the
First Wisconsin regiment, who re-
ferred to the excellent treatment ac-
