Recent Bride Is
Complimented With
Shower At Van
Mrs. Billy Dean Tunnell, the
former Miss Helen Kennedy, of
Rusk, was honored with a brid-
al shower in the Fellowship Hall
of the First Baptist Church of
,Van, Texas, Saturday, Oct. 30
at 2:30 p m.
The bride's chosen colors of
pink and white were used to dec-
orate the hall. Pink and white
rosei buds in crystal containers
were placed on different tables
to grace the hall. Mrs. Gayle Hunt
registered the guests in the brid-
e's book.
Miss Barbara Culbreth accom-
panied Miss Carol Morris, who
sang, "Bless This House".
Mrs. Gaston Morris presented
the gifts, which were displayed
unwrapped, to Mrs. Tunnel!. Gif-
ts were received from more than
100 people.
Mrs. Gayle Hunt served white
cake squares decorated with pink
rose buds and Mrs. Billie Gail
Durand served pink punch. The
refreshment table was covered
with a lace tablecloth underlaid
with pink. Thp centerpieco was
a miniature bride standing on
pink ruffled net, flanked on ei-
ther side with crystal candle hold-
ers with pink tapers.
Mrs. Tunnell was presented a
pink carnation corsage and the
mothers, Mrs. E. K. Kennedy of
Rusk, and Mrs. Roland Tunnell,
were presented white carnation
corsages.
Pfc. and Mrs. Tunnell left Mon-
day, November 8th for Oceanside,
Calif., where he will report for
duty with the Marine Corp , Nov.
14th.
Mrs. Lillian Riddle
Hostess To Thimble
Club Wednesday P.M.
Mrs. Lillian Riddle was host-
ess to the Thimble Club at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Finley, Wednesday afternoon, No-
vember 3rd.
Pink radiance roses were used
in the arrangements for the liv-
ing room,
After a very pleasant after-
noon of sewing, and visiting, the
hostess served a salad plate, cof-
fee, and cake to the following
members: Mesdames Al Smith,
Lewis Long, George Nelson, Gl-

Club At Her Home
Mrs. Lawrence Smith entertain-
ed the Stitch & Chat Club at her
home on Henderson St. Thursday
afternoon.
Members present were Mesda-
mes: Guy Black, B. J. Moreau,
Leo Tosh, Jewel Maness, Harmon
Schochler, D. C. McLaughlin, and
Mrs. William Smith was a guest.
The club will meet next with Mrs.
Leo Tosh.
Refreshments of sandwiches,-
salad, coffee and cookies were
served.

Hostess To Bridge
Club Last Friday
The Sans Soud Bridge Club
met last Friday with Mrs. Morris
Hassell as hostess. After a del-
ightful luncheon, the following
members played bridge: Mrs. Ja-
mes I Perkins. Mrs. Jessie Phili-
lps, Mrs. John Butler, Mrs. J.
C. Williams, Sr., Mrs. Esther Har-
rison, Mrs. H. Stevens, Mrs. Jos-
eph E. A. Ross, and the hostess,
Mrs. Hassell.
High score was made by Mrs.
John Butler, second high by Mrs
Stevens, and Mrs. Joseph E. A*.
Ross won the slam prize.

King On Birthday
The Senior Sunday School cl-
ass of the Salem Baptist Church
I met with Mrs Richaring Town-
! ley of Alto, November 4th. The
| group gave Miss Lillie Fay King
'a surprise birthday parly.
Whan she arrived, members of
(he class greeted her with the
happy birthday song.
Sixten were present to wish
her happy birthday.
Various games were played and
refreshments of cake and punch
were served.

ion with Mrs. Bowers' talk. One of
the highlights of the program was
a discussion on "how to plan your
travel wardrobe," based on Ca-

Baby mums were used through-
out the entertaining rooms.
Individual minemeat pies, top-
ped with whipped cream, roast-
ed pecans and coffee were serv-
ed the following members: Mes-
dames Laverne Parrish, Sharon
Fisher, Sara Summers, Bessie Lu-
nsford, Mamie Miller, Joan Par-
key, Katherine White, Marie Me-
hner, Betty Noonan, Doris Bow-
ers, Vivian Summers, Grace Gu-
inn, Mildred Chapman, and the
hostesses

Regular Meeting At
Campbell Home Mon.
Ornicron Gamma Chapter of Be-
ta Sigma Phi in Rusk met Monday
evening, November 8th at the
home of Mrs. Melba Campbell
with Mrs. Jane Thompson as co-
hostess
President Marie Mehner was in
charge of the business meeting.
Members present voted to as-
sist with the mass TB X-Ray unit
which will be conducted in Rusk
November 18, 19 and 20th. The
group also approved a proposal
to bake cookies and send to the
patients in the State Tubercul-
osis hospital at Tyler. The box-
ed cookies are to be given to
Mrs. C. J. Harkins on December
15th.

W. T. Norman visited their br-
other and sister-in-law, Mr and
Mrs. Hamel Francis at Jasper
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Harkins at-
tended the American Legion and
Auxiliary Convention at the Lib-
erty Hotel in Jacksonville Sun-
day,
Bill Freeland, a student at Aus-
tin College, Sherman, spent the
weekend here with his parents,
Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Freeland.
Dr. and Mrs. K C. Tinsley and
baby of Mangum," Oklahoma were
visitors here last week, bringing
Mrs. Tinsley's mother, Mrs. J. B.
Belvin home after several weeks
visiting with them.
Mr. and Mrs. James Long and
son, Duane of Abilene spent the
weekend here. They were enroute
to Minden, La., where Mr. Long
has been transferred.
Mr. and Mrs John Boyd Belvin
and two children of Texas City
have moved back to Rusk, after
being gone several years.
Mrs. Ralph Benton is visiting
her son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Wilson Hanna at Dallas.
Mrs. Hanna had the misfortune of
a fall and sprained her ankle
last week.
Mrs Ola Morris of Carlsbad,
New Mexico visited Mrs. Lonnie
Ross this week.
