"In any year women have always
played a major role in history,"
stated Mrs James I Perkins, guest
speaker Thursday night to the
Rusk Business and lYofessional
Woman s Club. Mesdames Mable
Horn and Gladys Evans were co-
hostesses to the regular dinner
meeting at Quinton's Restaurant.
Mrs Perkins, speaking on Wo-
men in Politics", was introduced by
Mrs Evans 'Throughout the Bible
you will find women playing im-
portant roles at crucial times. It
was -i woman who bathed the feet
of the Lord, knelr at the foot of
the cross, discovered the stone roll-
ed away from the sepulchre, saw
the resurrected Christ and carried
the news to the apostles. However,
the majority of women have ruled
the world simply sitting quietly,
rocking the cradle and holding fast
to values and ideas."
Mrs. Perkins named a number
of outstanding women who have
contributed to world affairs and
added In our Texas government i
women serse in the legislature,
courts, board of Regents of our
colleges and universities, on com-
mittees to study state problems,
and in many regulatory and ad
ministrative agencies. Political
candidates in this presidential
campaign year are well aware that
more women than men will vote
1 in this election the race is
on to promise better positions and
greater power to the women . . .
and, as Independence Day, July 4.
