powder), % teaspoon salt, % cup Homogenized Spry, 1 cup less
2 tablespoons milk, 1% teaspoons vanilla, 2 eggs, unbeaten.
Sift dry ingredients into mixing bowl. Drop in Spry. Add %
of milk, then vanilla, and beat 200 strokes (or 2 min. on mixer
at low speed). Scrape bowl and spoon or beater. Add eggs and
remaining milk and beat 200 strokes (same as before). Bake in
2 square 8" x 8" x 2" Sprycoated pans in moderately hot oven
(3750F.) 20-30 min. Cool before spreading filling on layers.
MOCHA cream filling: Soften 1% teaspoons gelatin in 2 table-
spoons cold water. Place over boiling water and stir until com-
pletely dissolved. Stir in % cup strong coffee, % cup sugar,
dash of salt. Chill until slightly thickened, stirring constantly.
Fold into 1 cup heavy cream, whipped; add 2 tablespoons cocoa,
% teaspoon vanilla and blend. Spread between layers and on
top. Decorate with a border of shaved chocolate curls. Chill in

1. Buy any size can of SPRY and try it in your -
kitchen for any and all frying and baking you
may do. Then, in twenty-five words or less, com-
plete the statement:

Cut a 3-lb. frying chicken in serving-size pieces. Mix % cup
fl.our, 1% teaspoons salt and dash of pepper. Coat chicken by
placing one piece at a time in paper bag containing seasoned
flour, shake well. Fry chicken in % cup pure, hot Homogenized
Spry in skillet until golden brown on both sides. Cover and cook
over low heat until tender (about % hour).
Melt 2 more tablespoons Spry in saucepan, add 3 large onions,
minced (about 2 cups), cook until yellow. Add 1% cups whole-
kernel corn (12-oz. can) and cook 5 min. longer. Add % cup
thin cream and cook until slightly thickened and cream israb-
sorbed (20-25 min.).
Put corn on hot platter, sprinkle with paprika, and arrange,
fried chicken on top. Garnish with parsley. Makes 4 servings.

At Burleson Friday
BURLESON, (Spl) — Mrs. Hom-
ma Keen, Mrs. John Truelove and
Mrs. Arthur Fannon were hostesses
when the Mary-Martha Sunday
School Class of the First Baptist
Church met at the educational
building last Friday for its all-day
business, social and luncheon meet-
ing.
The T-shaped luncheon table, laid
in white, was decorated in keep-
ing with St. Valentine season. The
center arrangement was made of
. nandina and red snowberries. Red
candles tied with red ribbons were
used. Small red hearts were scat-*
tered over the table. The napkins
also carried out the valentine
theme.
The menu consisted of fried
chicken,various kinds of vegetables
and salads, pickles olives, pies,
coffee and tea.Expression of thanks
was offered by the teacher, Mrs.
W. C. Moseley.
After the luncheon, a business
session was held, followed by an
interesting devotional led by Mrs.
S. W. Marlatt.
Members attending were: Mmes.
Moseley, George Ayers, G. W. Bak-
er, P. W. Johnson, J. M. Taylor,
L. E. Stubbs, Ben Hill, L, H.Hard-
grove, H. K. Stone, R. F. Rogers
and the hostesses.Guests included

Guy Smith, members of the Beth-
any Class, and one visitor, Mrs.

Burleson Personals
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Moseley
were called to Coushatta, Louisiana
last Wednesday on account of the
illness of Mr. Moseley’s brother,
G. H. Moseley. Not realizing how
serious his illness was, they return-
ed home Thursday night. Mr. Mose-
ley was called back Friday \ when
his brother passed away. Funeral
and burial services were held in
Coushatta Saturday at 4 p.m. Mr.
Moseley was accompanied Friday
by his son-in-law, L. R. Clark.
Mrs. Aubrey W. Russell, County
Home Demonstration Agent, with
headquarters in Lubbock, attended
a business meeting in Dallas last
week, and also spent the week-end
here with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. S. E. Wilshire.
Clyde Clark, brother of Mrs.
S. E. Wilshire and Mrs. G. R. Shan-
non-, underwent major surgery in
an Amarillo hospital last Wednes-
day., He is reported to be getting
along as well as could be expected.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark, natives of
Burleson, have made their home in
Amarillo for a number of years.
Just a few months ago they lost
their only child, Clyde Shannon
Clark, in an automobile accident.
Mrs. W. E. Faires of Fort Worth,
spent the week-end here with re-
latives and friends.
Wayne Smith, mid-term graduate
of North Texas State College, Den-
ton, has returned here to the home
of his mother, Mrs. H. L. Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clark and
sons, Mark and Jimmy, of Lub-
bock, spent the week-end with his
mother, Mrs. Pearl Clark. Her
sons, Edwin and Joe and their fam-
ilies, of Fort Worth, also visited in
her home.
Harold N. Warren, Winston F.
Taylor and Harry C. Rand have
announced the sale of Warren Poul-
try and Feed Company here, to
the Universal Mills of Fort Worth.
The business will continue as usual
under the supervision of Winston
F. Taylor.
Members of the Reece Baptist
Church, a rural church west of
Burleson, have just completed a
new parsonage. The modern resi-
dence was built mostly by volun-
teer labor. The pastor, Rev. Carl
Matthews, and family of Fort
Worth, moved on the field the lat-
ter part of January. Open house
will be held February* 21.
Miss Etta Ewing of Rio Vista,
was here Monday greeting friends
and attending the one-day work-
shop teacher-in-service program
held at the school. Miss Ewing
was principal of the high school
. for several years, and is always a
welcome visitor back to Burleson.
Mrs. A. H. Loyless went to Aus-
tin Tuesday to be with her daugh-
ter, Mrs. B. B. Hayes while Mr.
Hayes, of the Texas Education Ag-
ency, was in Atlantic City on a
' business trip.
