It was pointed out that de-
velopment of US 69 would
have added advantage because
the connection with 59 would
allow the motorist to have
well improved highways in-
to Houston and the Beaumont-
Port Arthur area. US 69 goes
directly into the Beaumont-
Port Arthur area.
The group voted to meet with
the Commissioners Court at
1*30 Monday and discuss wid-
ening US 69 north from Jack-
sonville to the county line
and from Alto, south to the
county line.
The group plans a trip to

to their family physician or
Health Unit to make sure
that their polio immunization
is up to date. The Cherokee
County Health Unit Clinic is
open every Thursday in the
Courthouse Annex in Rusk.
At schools in Douglass and
Gushing in polio clinics est-
ablished over the past week-
end, 712 persons received im-
munization vaccine. The
State Health Department
wants' to remind all persons
that three shots comprise the
total series. Future clinics
will be set up In the Douglass
and Cushing schools on June
20, 1969.
The last polio case in East
Texas was reported in Feb
niary, 1968 in Harrison Coun-
ty.
An earlier wire service ac-
count of the incident as a con-
firmed case of polio is in
error, saidTom Griffith, field
representative for the Health
Department.
Results of the laboratory in-
vestigations are expected
within the next 10 days to two
weeks.
In 1966, Texas recorded 22
cases of polio. Though this
is a small figure, it compri-
ses a large percentage of the
total national incidence of the
disease. Griffith blamed this
on the failure of manyTexans
to keep up their immu-
nizations, which must be re-
newed at three or four year
intervals.
Griffith works a 40 county
area in Fast Texas from his
office in Tyler.
The woman undergoing
treatment is the mother of a
four week -old infant who is
also undergoing treatment.
