Rusk Hgh School Seniors Obseive Career Day
The value of selecting an
occupation early in life was
emphasized Wednesday for
Rusk High School seniors
during Career Day held in the
school gym. Sixteen speakers
representing as many different
occupations participated in the
event, which was coordinated
by Mrs. Eloise Willingham,
counselor.
"There are at least five
reasons why the wise choice of
an occupation is important and
why facts about jobs are
essential to this choice," said
Mrs. Willingham She listed
the reasons as, "The choice ot
an occupation may determine
whether a graduate will be
employed or unemployed; may
determine success or failure;
may determine whether one
will enjoy or detest his work:
may influence almost every
other aspect of a graduate's
life and occupational choices
determine how a democratic
society will utilize its man-
power."
The changing trend in
education, from academic to
vocational, was also em-
phasized during Career Day
"Many of our speakers are
involved in jobs which do not
require college graduates,"
Mrs. Willingham said.
"Vocational courses in various
fields are becoming the trend
in education and many
students are choosing jobs
which require specialized
training for one or two years."
