Wildlife Association will be

The Rusk Volunteer Fire
Department has been plagued
with grass tires during the
latter part of June. The
department answered a total of
23 calls during the month
including five within the city
limits and IK rural fires.
Fire Marshal L L. Wilcox
cautions persons against use of
fire and fireworks during the
holiday week ' The grass is hot
and dry and even a small spark
from a firecracker or sparkler
can set off a fire which could
damage land and property."

suspected in several of the
grass fires. "The two fires on
Rider Road on Juno 27 at 6:25
p m must have been set," he

burning, one on the left hand

says, "They had burned about
the same amount of space
indicating they were burning
simultaneously
The lire marshal reported
that he suspects other fires as
cases ol arsons and urges
anyone with knowledge ot any
fires which were set to contact

our members attended the
District Convention in Okla-
homa. learning more points for

organization among the sever
al groups of interested people
who really are interested in
greater promotion of the
raising and exchanging of
livestock within the area of the
county.
The next regular meeting of
the Kiwanis Club will be held at
noon Tuesday . July lti at the
Pineview.

To Observe
Communion
The Communion of the
Lord's Supper will be observed
Sunday, July 14 at the Rusk
Presbyterian Church accord-
ing to the Rev. L. Allen Holley,
pastor. He invites members
and friends to attend.
At the 11 a.m. hour of
worship Sunday, July 21 the
pastor will bring a message on
"No Other Parents", Exodus
20:12.
Pastor Holley will be on
vacation for both the July 28
and August 4 service. There
will be no service on these
dates. He urges members to
attend other churches in the
community

Merit Award
For Safety
The Southwestern Electric
Service Company has earned
the Award of Merit presented
bv the National Safety Council
for the excellent safety record
achieved during 1973. The
Company had no lost lime
accidents last year.
In announcing the award,
Charles I). Goforth, President,
commended Ed Allen,
Company's Safety Director,
and all employees for their
efforts in earning this national
recognition.
The Company conducts
regular safety meetings for all
employees and a program of
on-the-job safety training. The
Company also sponsors ed-
ucational programs lor
specific areas ol safely such as
First Aid training, and more
than hall ol all Company
employees have been certified
by the American Red Cross for
successful completion ol the
Standard First Aid course.
Mr Goforth also announced
the Company 's safety record
ranked third nationally in a
recent Edison Electric In-
stitulo survey of electric utility
companies in the United
States

Pep Club
Girls in grades nine through
12 al Rusk High School, who
are not members of the band,
may join the Rusk High School
Pep Club by contacting Mrs
Rita Price or one of the high
school cheerleaders.
Those eligible to join must be
willing to attend practice,
willing to work and attend all
varsity football games
The group will be active in
l>ep rallies and have a main
goal of creating enthusiasm
and pep to back the team

which was only 30 hours ii^
length, resulted in 13 traffic
deaths in Texas. The 1972
holiday, which was 102 hours
long, was marred by HO deaths.
