New officers for the Rusk
Business and Professional
Women's Club of Rusk
were installed at the
regular club meeting at 7
p.m. Thursday. The meet-
ing was held in the First
State Bank Building.
Theme of the installation
ceremony was "Patrio-
tism." In her remarks, vice
president Mrs. Lena Bell
Pirtle stressed traits of
men and women who have
made our country great,
saying "The Bicentennial
is causing us to stop and
take stock of what our
Heritage really means to
us and to our success as a
club, a city, a county and a
Country." She used the
"Spirit of '76" emblem to
challenge each of the
officers.

Mrs. Nell Gunter, first vice
president; Mrs. Kay Rey-

Honored
Employees of District 10
of the Texas Highway
Department were recently
honored with Certificates
of Service ranging from 10
to 30 years.
Cherokee County person-
nel honored were Howard
G. Stover, 15 years,
employed in the Cherokee
County Maintenance Sec-
tion in Jacksonville; Billy
W.Sessions, 15 years;
Charles H. Jones, 15 years
and Verner U. Long, Jr., 10
years, all employed in the
Cherokee County Mainte-
nance Section in Rusk.
District 10 is composed of
Anderson, Cherokee,
Gregg, Henderson, Rusk.
Smith, Van Zandt and
Wood Counties.

Beach, Mississippi arrived
Monday for a few days visit
with his aunt Mrs. Frank
Coupland.

The new president cut
the birthday cake for the
club. The cuke was
decorated with "Rusk B.
and P.W. Club-
:i7th Year" Mrs. Pirtle
served punch and cake to
the new officers and other
members, including Miss
Carolyn Forster. Mrs.
Mable Horn, Mrs. Lois
Henry, Miss Marion Mal-
lard, Miss Bill March. Mrs.
Louise Cromwell.
The meeting was opened
with a prayer written by
Mrs. Ruby Ross on the
special occasion of the
club's birthday. The group
voted to donate $10 to the
Volunteer Services Council
for Rusk State Hospital to
assist with the July 4
celebration. Members paid
annual dues and requested

memers not present that
dues should be paid by July

and Juanita Warren were
elected to membership in
the club.
No regular meetings of
the club will be held for
July or August, those being
vacation months, but the
president will call meet-
ings of the executive com-
mittee or the club as the
need arises.
Minutes of the May 7
meeting were read and
approved and the treasurer
gave a report. According to
the treasurer, no Rusk
High School student made
application for the nurses
scholarship so the funds
are still on hand.
ENGAGED—Mr. and Mrs. Leo llicks of Alto announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Pam, to Steve McClendon. son of Mr. and Mrs. John
McClendon Jr. of Alto, the wedding is set for 7 p.m.. July 11
in the First Baptist Church of Alto.
