Chamber of Commerce for
1979 and committee
chairmen were named at
noon Friday by new
Chamber president Travis
McCain The occasion was
the annual membership
meeting at the Petticoat
Junction ' '
Goals outlined by
t McCain included the
continuing development
and promotion of the Texas
State Railroad; launching
an active and agressive
campaign to get at least
one new industry in Rusk,
assisting existing
businesses with the
training of potential
employees, continuing Ihe
development of new
housing and to study
suggestions of the
membership in
determining goals which
interest the people of the
community.
McCain's committee
appointments included
Houston White and Frank
Howell, co-chairmen of
membership; Joe Terrell,"
Industrial Development;
Paul Auchter, Retail and
Trade Development,
Charles Warren, Tourism
Committee and Mrs
Sandra McCain and Mrs.
Mary Van Zandt, banquet
arrangements.
The new president urged
the support of the
membership with
suggestions and time "It
takes volunteers to
improve the community,"
he said "If everyone gives
us just a little time, we can
all get the job done " He
urged the 100 persons
attending to work with tin-
leadership of the chamber
to make Rusk a better
place to live

The Cherokee County
Historical Commission met
Tuesday, Jan 23 at the
S i n g I e t a r y Memorial
Library in Rusk for an
organizational meeting and
to form sub committees as
required by the Texas
Historical Commission.
This was the first
meeting of the members of
the Commission since their
appointment by the
Cherokee Count\
Commissioners Court on
Jan R for a term of two
years

She will discuss the
masterplan and the
proposed time schedule for
the development of the
Caddoan Mounds State
Historic Site located on
SUte Highway 21 six miles
west of Alto.
The meeting will be in
the Winchester Restaurant
of the New Southern Motor
Hotel in Rusk. The board of
directors will meet at 6
p.m. Dinner will be served
at 6:30 p.m., followed by
the program at 7 p.m.
