Notes

Text: “Dear Mr. Kempner, Your letter was slightly delayed but brought us the happy news that you and Mrs. Kempner are coming our way. We are delighted. Your question as to dates: Our commencement is June 5-6-7; V.M.I.’s exercises follow immediately. I suggest prior to the 5th or after the 10th — unless you don’t mind a noisy and crowded little town. As to transportation: we do not recommend the private plane from Roanoke to White Sulphur. The automobile is the best plan. We shall be glad to make a car available for you and Mrs. Kempner — with driver — at Roanoke or White Sulphur or here in Lexington. It will be my own Cadillac with my own driver unless the time conflicts with two engagements I have. At all events we can […] the car and driver for these relatively short trips. V[…]e and I wish we could claim your both as house-guests, but we are building our little cottage by installment and shall not have the guest room ready. I shall of course be glad to make any reservations you suggest. Dr. Cole joins me in pleasure that you are coming. Thank you both, again and always for your kindness to me in Galveston. Ever warm regards to both. Sincerely yours, Francis P. Gaines.”
