Baptist Youth Choir
Is Touring Arkansas
Members of the First Baptist Church Youth Choir are on tour through Saturday, i he uroujt will
visit churches in Arkansas, where they will present concerts. The Younfs folk will also be treated
to an outing at Silver Dollar City and view 'Shepherd of the Hills' drama in the Missouri resort.
Accompanying the choir are Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kendrick and Mr. and Mrs. (ieorge l)odd.
The youth choir of First
Baptist Church is touring
Arkansas through this
Saturday.
The group left Monday
morning for Nashville,
accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. Mike Kendrick, youth
director, and Mr. and Mrs.
George Dodd.
The itinerary includes
choir performances at host
churches in Arkansas,
coupled with vacation fun
at resort areas in
Arkansas.
Monday evening, the
choir will perform at a
church in Nashville.
Tuesday they will sing at
Hackett, Ark. and
Wednesday at Carthage.
On Wednesday, they will
also visit Devil's Den Park.
Thursday will be fun day
for the young people when
they visit Silver Dollar City
at Branson, on the
Missouri-Arkansas line.
They will take in
"Shepherd of the Hills"
drama Thursday evening,
spend the night at a motel
and waken to breakfast and
recreation. They will enjoy
horseback riding and water
slide at the resort before
traveling to Fort Smith,
Ark. for their final concert.
The group plans to be back
in Rusk at 6 p.m. Saturday.

9. They were honored with
a family dinner by their

The Evans moved to
Rusk in 1950 from Dialville.

Mrs. Evans has taught
private piano, voice and
organ lessons at Dialville
and Maydelle schools and
later in their Rusk home.
She has been an active
member and past president
of the Rusk Business and
Professional Women's Club
and is a past .president of
the Library Study Club,
working with other
members to establish the
Singletary Memorial
Library.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans are
members of the First
Presbyterian Church of
Rusk where Mrs. Evans
has directed the adult and
youth choirs, taught
Sunday School classes and
has been active in the
Women's work. She has
been the church organist
for many years.
The couple have three
children, Carmen Lightsey
of Florence, Alabama,
Donna Crawford of Reklaw
and Ted Evans of Canton.
They have 10
grandchildren and four
great grandchildren.

Services for Ada Pearl
Crenshaw Pettit, age 75, of
Rusk were held Tuesday
morning at 10 a.m. in the
Wallace-Thompson Chapel
with the Rev. Byron Jones
and the Rev. R. S. Dyess
officiating.
Burial was held in the
Rusk Cedar Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Pettit passed away
in the Rusk Memorial
Hospital following a
lengthy illness. She was
born Sept. 9, 1904 in Alto.
She lived in Rusk most of
her life and was a Baptist.
Survivors include one
son, James Crenshaw of
Big Springs; one daughter,
Dorothy Spurgers of Rusk;
one half brother, Ed Mofett
of Pasadena; and one
sister, Callie Gallagher of
Rusk; six grandchildren
and 13 great
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shelby
Hood, Edwin Jones, Butch
Walley, Edgar Banks, Jr.,
Forrest Dyess and Joel
White.

Terrell Haney, 78, of Rt. 1
Alto were held Sunday at 2
p.m. in Alto Missionary
Baptist Church with the
Rev. Otis Bryan and T. W.
Kennedy officiating.
~ Burial was held in the
Old Palestine Cemetery
under the direction of
Wallace-Thompson Funer-
al Home of Rusk.
Mr. Haney died Saturday
morning, July 19, in a
Palestine hospital
following an extended
illness.
He was born on Oct. 20,
1901 in Appleby, Texas of
Nacogdoches County, and
lived in Alto for 30 years.
Mr. Haney was a retired
iiutcher and a farm and
was a deacon and member
of the Alto Missionary
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his
wife Zeffie Haney of Alto;
one son, Or land Haney of
Rusk; two daughters,
Mrs. Bobbie Channel and
Mrs. Nelda Bobbitt, both of
Rusk; two sisters, Ida V.

nee Katie Struhall, was
honored Tuesday, July 15
with a miscellaneous
shower at First State Bank.
She was married May 29
in the home of Judge and
Mrs. Abner Webb, her
grandparents.
Refreshments were
served from 2 to 4 p.m.
during the shower. Cake,
nuts, mints, punch and
coffee were served from a
table centered with á silver
compote of silk spring
flowers.
Those attending included
Mrs. Gerry Struhall,
mother of the bride; Mrs.
James Williams, mother of
the groom, and Mrs. Abner
Webb, the bride's
grandmother.

day luncheon meeting, the
Rotary Club of Rusk heard
Larry Long present a pro-
gram on energy savings in
the home. An instructional
film indicated that 30-50
percent of the energy
costs of heating or cooling
a home could be saved
with proper insulation and
ventilation. Heat leaks
were the most serious
problem in most homes. A
question and answer ses-
sion followed with local
builder James Clay and
his wife Ernie concerning
their newly-constructed
home which is partly
underground. They have
been comfortable, they
•aid, without using air
conditioning this summer.
