The American Kennel
Club has issued a warning
to prospective pedigree dog
buyers. According to a
report issued recently the
AKC says that anyone wan-
ting to buy a purebred dog
and is told that it is eligible
for registration with the
American Kennel Club
they are entitled to receive
from the seller an ap-
plication form that will en-
title the buyer to register
their dog.
The AKC goes on to say
that if the seller cannot
give the buyer the ap-
plication the buyer should
demand and receive full
identification of the dog in
writing, signed by the
seller, consisting of the
breed, the registered
names of the dog's sire and
dam, the dog's date of bir-
th, the name of its breeder
and if available, its AKC
litter number
The AKC warns that
prospective buyers should
not be misled by promises
of "papers later." Demand
should be made for a
registration application
form or proper iden-
tification as described
above. If neither is sup-
plied says the AKC, "Don't
buy the dog . "
For further information
on this a free pamphlet is
available from the
American Kennel Club.
