Let me take this opportunity to
remind you of three upcoming
events that you might be interested
in.
The first two are a combination
event involving Christmas trees
and farm pond management. Now
at first glance these might seem
unrelated, however they might be a
very nice combination for a small
land owner.
Actually the two events will be
separated by a noon lunch catered
by Stacey's of Jacksonville.
The morning session will begin at
9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 at
the city hall building in New Sum-
merfield. The program will in-
volve Christmas trees and include a
tour of the Tennison Christmas
Tree Plantation.

Need anew heating
and/or coating system ?
A Heat Pump is both!
If your house is like many, you have separate heating and cooling systems.
If yours are over fifteen years old, chances are you've had increasingly
frequent service calls. The units are probably starting to cost you money and
maintenance is likely to get even more frequent... and expensive.
When you replace, consider the heat pump, the most efficient heating
and cooling machine available. In typical installations, you get two units
of energy (heat) for every unit of energy (electricity) used by the heat
pump system. The result is lower system operating costs and lower
fuel usage.
The heat pump is a single unit that both heats and cools. In the summer
it's a standard air conditioner. In winter, it reverses operation and picks up
heat in the outside air (no matter how cold the outside air. there's always
some heat in it) and pumps It into your home In most installations,
existing duct systems can be utilised

Your calves might be the answer
to your fly problems.
Many producers have found the
new impregnated ear tags to be
ineffective in recent years.
We are encouraging producers to
utilize alternate insecticides and
application techniques to achieve
the needed success. These might
include sprays, dusts, etc. which
utilize an organo-phosphate base.
The problem with back rubs and
dusting bags is placement in an
area where cows will actually come
in contact with them.
This is where the calves come in.
Many producers are finding the
practice of creep feeding to be
economical this yeár. Placing a
dust bag or rub over the entry of the
creep feeder will allow an ap-
plication of insecticides to the
calves as they enter and leave the
area. As they nurse the cow, they
will provide protection to the cow.
This will also work with ear tags.
Put the tags on the calves and the
cow will get protection as the calf
nurses. An added bonus, the calves
will be sold prior to the time when
the tags should be removed.
Remember to remove tags when
they are no longer effective.
Leaving them past that time will
cause greater immunity to flies
because they are exposed to sub-
lethal doses.
