candidates were petitioned
for by farmers. “I commend
producers for their
participation in making
nominees,” he said.
The ASC Community
extra-curricular sports
activities was discussed after
being tabled at a previous
meeting. Board members
voted to pay $7.50 per night
for such events, as well as bus
drivers who make out-of-town
trips. Eight will be the
maximum number of
teachers to work such events,
and funds for paying them
will be taken from gate
receipts of the sports event.
A meeting has been set up
for the school board members
for 12:30 noon Thursday to
discuss plans for the new
elementary building. Before
the architect can complete the
plans, he must know exactly
where the buildings will be
located, Superintendent
Norris Birdwell stated. At the

will measure the grounds and
make their final decision.

upcoming Agricultural
Stabilization and
Conservation Community
Committee election have been
developed, James E. Wisby,
county executive director of
the Van Zandt County ASCS,
has announced.
The candidates for each
School board members
decided unanimously at their
regularly scheduled meeting
Tuesday night to discontinue
the exemption policy for
students with grade averages
of 90 or above. Trustees made
this decision on the theory
that students need to learn to
study for exams, and feel that
in the long-run, it will be the
best decision for the students,
especially those who plan to
continue their education. The
new policy will go into effect
immediately.

Wills Point Friday night in the
final game of the 1975 football
season and the boys’ parents
will be honored at the game.

0-5, with losses to Brownsboro

21-0 win over Malakoff, and

No charge is made for
transportation, but donations
of 25 cents for a one-way trip
for rural patrons and 15 cents
for a one-way trip for town
patrons, will be accepted by
those who feel they would like
to contribute to the program.
A bus driver is still needed
for the Canton area, and one
may be needed later for the
Van area, according to Mrs.
Weaver. Anyone wishing to
become a driver may contact
Mrs. Weaver at 865-8582.

A group of approximately
25 older citizens has been
chosen to take part in this
program, which is hoped to be
a forerunner to a bigger
program later on, according
to the Rev. Bob Armstrong,
pastor of the church.
The group will meet once
each week at the Methodist
church for a meal and some
sort of social activity.

Presbyterian
Ex-missionary and now
medical doctor at Terrell
State Hospital, Dr. Calvin
Wallis will be preaching at the
First Presbyterian Church,
Canton, at the 9:19 a.m.
worship service, Sunday,
November 16.
Dr. Wallis worked for many
years in Guatemala before
retiring to Terrell. He is an
active layman and elder in the
United Presbyterian Church,
U.S.A., and had three years of
Theological Seminary
training prior to becoming a
missionary.

Canton Eaglettes will
officially kick-off the 1975-76
basketball season Saturday
night, November 15, when
they host Prairieland in the
local gymnasium.
The freshman girls will
begin play at 5 p.m. followed
by the Junior Varsity game
about 6:30, then the Varsity
team game around 8 or 8:15.
“We lost four starters last
year with graduation, but we
expect these girls who are
replacing last year’s starters
to get the job done,” Coach
