ET Historical Association
to meet Feb. 26 in Lufkin
The annual spring meeting of the
East Texas Historical Association
will be Feb. 26-27 in Lufkin.
Registration for the two-day
meeting begins at 2:30 p.m. Friday,
Feb. 27. Headquarters for the
meeting will be the Holiday Inn on
U.S.59andLoop287.
The opening session, at 3 p.m.
Friday, features popular East
Texas writer and television per-
sonality Bob Bowman, who will
speak on "Turpentiners in East
Texas."
At 7 p.m. Friday, the meeting will
move to the Texas Forestry
Museum for a tour of the facility and
to hear museum director Carol
Riggs speak on the Thompson
Collection, a rare photograDhic

Members of Alpha Alpha Gamma
Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi took
baby pictures of their sweethearts to
their Feb. 1 sorority meeting. Other
members attempted to guess who
was the baby in the pictures. Melody
Lade was program chairman of that
portion of the program. Members
met at the home of Leslie Hassell.
Cindy Fulton and Lori Moake
presented a program on what each
wanted to get their sweetheart for
Valentine'sDay.
Mrs. Hassell, social chairman,
reported on plans for the chapter's
Valentine Party to be held Feb. 12 at
Coffee Landing.
Brenda Dominy, vice-president
reported on the pledge training. A
donation was approved to go into the
Beta Sigma Phi International
Scholarship Fund, the Endowment
Fund and Loan Fund.
Mrs. Lade, service chairman
reported that the chapter's friend,
Eva, would be remembered on
Valentine'sDay.
Baked potatoes, salad, tea and
strawberry cake were served. The
hostess gift was won by Lori Moake.
Special guests were Glenda Ross
and Carla Wills. Members attending
were Cindy Fulton, Kim Killion,
Jonna Wilson, Connye Guy, Anita
Ocker, Melody Lade, Lori Moake,
Cindy Richards, Lindy Ocker,

A reception will be held afterwar-
ds for members and guests at the
Kurth House, 1860 Old Mill Road.
All Saturday activities will be at
the Holiday Inn. Sessions will be
held on Historic Restoration in
Beaumont, Oral History, Texas Folk
Games and Toys, the Sam Houston
Oak in Marshall, the Confederate
Postal Service, and Stories of the
Neches River.
Roy Graham, architect of the
Texas State Capitol, will be the lun-
cheon speaker Saturday.
Special features of the luncheon
include the presentation of the
Lucille Terry Award, presented
jointly by the Texas Forestry
Museum and the East Texas
Historical Association, for outstan-
ding achievement in the field of
historic preservation, and the Ralph
W. Steen Award for outstanding ser-
vice to history and to the
association.

are honored
on anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Kyle were
honored with a reception in honor of
their 40th wedding anniversary on
Sunday, Feb. 7 in the Community
Room of the Rusk Federal Savings
and Loan Association. Ap-
proximately 125 guests called bet-
ween the appointed hours of 2 to 4
p.m. Hosting the lovely event were
the couple's children and gran-
dchildren, Kelly Kyle of Arcadia,
La., and Bob and Kay Kyle Rice,
Karen and Susan of Tyler.
Silk flowers and candles of blue
and mauve and brass appointment
accented the beautiful serving
tables. Assisting in serving duties
were Barbara Rice, Wanda Nor-
man, Nancy Bowman, Lisa West-
brook, Carol Norman, Mallory
Westbrook, Karen Rice and Susan
Rice.
Herschel Kyle and the former Sue
Westbrook were married Dec. 24,
1947 in the First Baptist Church in
Rusk. The couple resided in Rusk
until 1980 when they moved to Ar-
cadia, La.

twice at Rusk Federal
The Xi Epsilon Kappa chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 18 at Rusk
Federal Savings and Loan with
President Carolyn Smith presiding.
During the meeting Tommye
Pickett, social chairman, discussed
plans for the annual Valentine
Banquet. The banquet was to be held
Feb. 12 at the Southern Motor Inn.
Each member was asked to take a
Secret Sister gift, a white elephant
gift and a gift for her sweetheart.
The social committee served
homemade soup, sandwiches, pecan
pie and iced tea. Vivian Vaught,
hostess, provided a butterfly trivet
won by Marilyn Harris.
Members in attendance included
Ginger Kelly, Marilyn Campbell,
Hazel Tosh, Candis Blankinship,
Patsy Kinchen, Estelle Ham,
Florence Ocker, Clarice Welch,
Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Pickett, Mrs.
Vaught and Mrs. Harris. The
group welcomed a visitor, Pat Pit-
tman.
The chapter met again on Feb. l at
Rusk Federal Savings & Loan. After
a short business meeting the group
enjoyed two programs. Patsy Kin-
chen presented entertaining
passages from the book, Grandma •
