Foreign youths
are seeking
U.S. sponsors
The International Education
Forum is now seeking families in-
terested in hosting foreign high
school students for the coming
academic year starting in Septem-
ber. Local representative is Brenda
Raiborn, phone683-2173.
A unique feature of the I.E.F.
program is that host families can
choose from fifteen different
nationalities; mostly European and
Asian, although a few students from
South America are available from
time to time. Upon registering each
student completes a detailed ap-
plication from which a profile is
drawn. This is available for perusal
to aid in selecting a student whose
lifestyle and interests are com-
patible with the host family.
All students have been thoroughly
screened and tested during the ap-
plication process and all have good
academic skills and sufficient
English to function in an English-
speaking family, community and
high school setting.
All students bring ample spending
money for personal needs and have
full medical coverage. Host families
are asked only to provide room,
board and the enthusiasm to share
their lifestyle here in the United
States with a teenage visitor from
abroad.

TRUST IN THE LORD, FOR HE
KNOWS BEST WHERE YOU BELONG
Throughout our lives we become involved in
many activities and associations, some of which
are worthy causes and others, lost causes. This
could apply to a job, a relationship with another
person, or a volunteer organization to which we
have given many hours or years of service.
Nonetheless, there may come a time when it is
best to bow out; perhaps someone else is equipped
to do in a few seconds on a computer what would
have taken us hours by hand, and so forth.
Moreover, a change of job may be indicated, in
favor of another one more suited to our abilities.
Perhaps there is also another project more in need
of our time and talents. Your faith at your House
of Worship teaches you to arrange your priorities
and review the pattern of your life now and then.
In any case, let the Lord place you wherever He
sees fit. He knows better than you do where you
belong.
The season when to come
anil when to ^o,
l(i sinn. or cease to sin#,
we never know.

at a press conference in the
Speaker's Committee Room that
also featured the release oí the
commission's annual legislative
analysis. ■
Lewis was recognized with the
"Award for Fairness" for his han-
dling of efforts in the 70th Texas
Legislature to legalize a state-
operated lottery.
"Though Speaker Lewis was un-
der inordinate pressure to use the
power of his office to promote the
passing of the lottery bill, he refused
to do so. We want to honor him for his
fair and even-handed treatment of
the issue," said Phil Strickland,
director of the Christian Life Com-
mission.
The "Award for Support of Health
and Human Services" went to Lt.
Gov. William P. Hobby (D-Houston?
and to Rep. Jack Vowell (R-El
Paso). Rep. David Hudson CD-
Tyler) and Rep. Talmadge Heflin
(R-Houston) were granted the
"Award for Leadership" for helping
to defeat the state-sponsored lottery
in the legislature. The "Award for
Legislation in Support of Family"
went to Rep. Larry Evans (D-
Houston) for supporting the role of
families in reducing redicivism
among Texas Department of
Corrections prisoners.
At a later date, each of the in-
dividuals honored by the com-
mission will receive a signed and
numbered print by Texas artist W.
A. Slaughter.
The legislative analysis that was
released to the press will be
distributed among the 5,000
Southern Baptist congregations in
Texas, to members of the
legislature, to candidates and to
newspaper editorial boards
throughout the state.
