C. H. Spurgeon one time said,
“They call us reverend. It makes
me sick to think that any mortal
should be considered a reverend .
person. What reverence could be
due to us except that every wife
sees that .she revers her husband.
That’s scriptural, but it is never
said that every hearer is to rever-
ence the preacher. Oh, what poor
preachers we are at our best. If
God were to permit us to be door
mats to the church it would be to
high an honor for us.
I have seen a broom outside the
door, where farming men come to
brush their boots. It is a grand .
thing for a man to be just like
that. I think I am getting very
near that honor and glory, so many 1
are scraping their boots up against I
me just now, and I am well con-
tent that it should be so, if they 1
can get some mud off and do not
go and spoil God’s floor inside.
Let us not feel that what be-
comes of us matters at all. We
must be willing to die in a ditch,
so long as Jesus Christ sits on the
Throne and his great truth is es-
tablished in the world.
This great preacher certainly set
a good example and offered some
good advice to this day in which -
a man can’t even get his name ir
the phone book, or be addressed in
a letter, without the term “Rever-
end” stuck before his name.

wear and service underfoot.
indoors or out, it’s hard to wear
it out — because it’s scrub resist-
ant, water resistant and Weather

stubbornly resists scuffing and
abrasion — its mirror-like sur-
face stays bright and gleaming,
richly colored as tile and almost
as easy to keep clean.
