Chief Rabbi, Congregation Beth
Israel, will deliver the main
address at the 21st Anniversary
Celebration of the State of
I sr a el, to be held at
Congregation Beth Yeshurun on
Tuesday, May 27, at 8 p.m. This
affair is sponsored by the Zionist
Council of Houston composed
of the Ben Gurion, Emma
Lazarus, Henrietta Szold,
Stephen Wise, and Weizmann
Chapters of Hadassah, the
Houston and Marcus Levinson
Zionist Districts, the No. 1 and
Dimona Chapters of Pioneer
Women, the Farband and
Mizrachi Women. Herzl Lodge
B’nai B’rith is co-sponsoring the
affair.
Dr. Schachtel’s subject will be
"The Problems Facing Israel
Today." Dr. Schachtel has
served as Chief Rabbi of Cong
Beth Israel since 1943, and has
visited Israel several times. His
son, Bernard, is returning next

follow a gourmet buffet
