First United Methodist Church with

Don Copeland and the Rev. Ernie
Turney officiating Burial was in
Cedar Hill Cemetery under the di-
rection of Wallace-Thompson Fu-
neral Honfie.
Mrs. Coker died Wednesday, Nov.
20, in Rusk. She was born Oct. 24,
1909, in Lake Creek and had lived in
Rusk since 1934. She and her late
husband, J. P. Jared, owned and
operated Jared Variety Store from
1936-69 and a member of First
United Methodist Church. She was
a member of the board of directors of
the Voluntary Council of Rusk State
Hospital.
Survivors are her'son and daugh-
ter-in-law, James B. (Bubba) and
Helen Jared of Bedford; a daughter
and son-in-law, Jenny and Earl
Meyer of Caldwell; a brother, James
Birmingham of Branson, Mo.; four
grandchildren and their spouses,
Debbie and James Risse, Lana and
Gene Chmelar and Melody and Jay
Jared; and five great-grandchildren,
Jessica, Amanda and Catherine
Risse.
Pallbearers were James I. Per-
kins, Lester Hughes, Scott Jared,
David Long, Jim Birmingham and
Robert Henry.
Frank Madden, J. W. Summers
and Frank Sawyer were honorary
pallbearers.

Funeral for Damon Ramey, 83, of
Reklaw, was at 1:30 p.m. Saturday
at the Thompson Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Wallas
and the Rev. James Walden officiat-
ing. Burial was in Walker Chapel
Cemetery.
Billy Neil Darby
Funeral for Billy Neil Darby, 59, of
Rusk, was at 11 am. Saturday in the
Thompson'Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Don Copeland and the
Rev. Kenneth Hammond officiating.
Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Darby died Thursday in Nan
Travis Hospital. He was bom Nov. 9,
1937, in New Summerfield and had
been a resident of Rusk for 40 years
and formerly lived in Ponta. He was
a Baptist and was employed at Rusk
State Hospital for 37 years.
Survivors are his wife, Darla Darby
of Rusk; an aunt, Birdie Richey of
Rusk; his mother-in-law, Estelle
Wood of Rusk; two sisters-in-law and
their husbands, Mary Beth and
Sammy Hooper of Jacksonville and
Lila and David Sistrunk of Scurry,
three nephews, Sammie Hooper Jr.
of Jacksonville, Jordan Neil Hooper
of Jacksonville and David Sistrunk
III of Scurry, and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers were Johnny Richey,
Jimmy Richey, Pat Richey, E. C.
Daniels, Mike Crysup, Rayburn
McCowan, Billy Lovelady and Larry
Davis.

Funeral for Arlie Bice Sr., 80, of
Alto was at 2 p.m. Monday at the
O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Gene Tomlin
officiating. Burial was in Lynches
Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Bice died Nov. 22 in Tyler. He
was born Aug. 2,1916, in Alto to the
late Gilbert B. and Selena Schochler
Bice. He lived in Alto most of his life
and was retired from Southern Pa-
cific Railroad and Rusk State Hospi-
tal. He was a 32nd degree Scottish
Rite Mason and a member of Alto
Terrell Lodge No. 83, past worthy
patron of Alto Order of the Eastern
Star, a Baptist. He helped establish
the Cherokee Wildlife Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife
Henrietta Bice in 1988.
Survivors are his daughter, Lou
Thompson of Alto; a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Arlie Jr. and Sharon
Bice of Jacksonville; two sisters,
Alindra Heflin of Alto and Ali Faye
Lane of Buna; a brother, Herdis Bice
of Alto; a special friend, Helen Blount
of Palestiné; four grandchildren and
sixtk great-grandchildren.
Billy Brooke
Funeral for Billy Travis Brooks,
56, of Wimberly, formerly of Alto
was at 2 p.m. Saturday at O. T. Allen
& Son Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Odis Bryan officiating/-
Burial was in Alto City Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks died Nov. 20, in Aus-
tin. He was born Oct. 20, 1940, in
Jacksonville. He had lived in
Wimberly for 10 years and also lived
in Houston. He worked as a design
consultant and was a member of
Second Baptist Church of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his
mother, Ferol Christian Brooks.
Survivors are his father, Travis
Brooks of Alto; a brother, Jerry F.
Brooks of Wimberly, and two nieces.
Pallbearers included Paul Sharp,
A. L. (Boots) Brooks, Don Watters,
Al Bauer, Charles Lewis Thomas
and Larry Griffith.

Mr. Cook died Nov. 22 in Tyler. He
was born Feb. 6,1956, in Rusk. He
was employed at Texas Department
of Corrections and had worked for
many years as a heavy duty wrecker
driver in Houston. He was a Protes-
tant.
Survivors are his wife, Nancy Cook
ofHouBton; a daughter, Brenda Cook
of Slocum; his parents, Ray and
Jacky Cook of Elkhart; two sisters,
Lu Taylor of Palestine and Kim
Minter of Oakwood.
Ruth Fulton Toah *
Funeral for Ruth Fulton Tosh, 69,
of Rusk, was at 11 a.m. Thursday at
the Wallace-Thompson Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. W. F.
Sides and John Cole officiating.
Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Tosh died Nov. 19 in Rusk.
She was born in Gallatin and at-
tended Gallatin High School. She
was a lifelong resident of Cherokee
County and was a member of the
Rusk Church of Christ. She was a
psychiatric nurse technician at Rusk
State Hospital and a past member of
Rusk Lioness Club, an active mem-
ber of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliaryand a member of the Texas
Public Employees Association.
Survivors are three sons, Charlee
(Skip) Fulton and David Fulton, both
of Rusk and Kenny Fulton of
LaPorte; two sisters, Evelyn
Hanberry of Houston and Kay
Milstead of Alto; seven grandchil-
dren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Max Milstead,
Steven Fulton, Mike Birdwell, Billy
Jack O'Neal, David Beard and Jerry
Miller.
Honorary pallbearers were Don
Box, Ross Davis and Carl Jenkins.

j Mr. Ramey died Thursday at his
I home. He was born Oct. 11,1913, in
I Reklaw and had lived in Reklaw
¡ most of his life. He owned and oper-
! ated Ramey Plant Farm for more
L than 50 years, beginning with a mail
order business in 1942, shippingbare
, root plants throughout the United
¡ States. In the 1950s he shipped to-
¡ matoes by rail and in 1967 started in
¡ the bedding plant business. He re-
¡ tired in 1986. He was active in com-
¡ munity affairs and served on the
¡ Reklaw City Council, the water board
¡ and gas company through the years.
He had been a member of a non-
denominational church for 39 years.
Mr. Ramey was preceded in death
by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally
' and Doug Jordan of Rusk and a son-
I in-law, Dwight Mason of Reklaw.

i Ramey of Reklaw; a aon, Jim Ramey
! of Rusk; two daughters and sons-in-
law, Marlys and Sam Bashour of

54, of Sacul was at 10 a.m. Thursday
at the Dickey Allen Funeral Home
Chapel in Cushing with the Rev.
Roland Alsobrook officiating. Burial
was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney.
Mrs. Garner died Tuesday in a
Nacogdoches hospital. She was born
Dec. 3, 1941, in Forney to the late
Raymond Vernon and Elizabeth Sue
Campbell Smith. She moved to Sacul
six years ago from Dallas and was
owner of the Sacul Country Store.
She was a member of the Atoy
United Methodist Church, president
of the Sacul Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment, chairman of the administra-
tive board of the Atoy United Meth-
odist Church and highly active in
community affairs.
Survivors are her husband, Ken-
neth'R. Garner of Sacul; a daughter
Lacrecia Lynn Garner of Forney; a
brother, Raymond D. Smith of
Crandall; two sisters, Janet Ann
Feagin and Deborah Kay Smith, both
of Dallas.
