U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) is fighting proposed cuts to student aid, loans and work-study
programs. He wants to hear from St. Ed’s students and to discuss the latest developments in Congress.
“I have met with Dr. Hayes to discuss the devastating effects these cuts will have on St. Ed’s Students,” said
Representative Doggett.
The Republicans are planning to eliminate:
- the Perkins Loan
- the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunities Grants
- Work-study programs
The Republicans also want to end federal interest payments on loans, abolish direct student lending
programs, and are proposing across-the-board block grants.
St. Ed’s students are invited to a citywide gathering to discuss this crisis on Tuesday, April 11,1995,11:30
- noon, UT’s West Mall. Doggett wants your voice to be heard at this event, and looks forward to being at St.
Edward’s later in the year.
