CHEROKEEAN/HERALD of Rusk, Texas—Thursday, November 27,1997—Page 3
Tanner Jones &
Ashley Davis
El Camino Real
continued frorrfpage 2
day, Aunt Maurice!
Tanner Jones had a birthday
Nov. 9. He was three years old.
His Pa Paw, Carlton Jones,
built him-a tire swing for his
birthday. It looked
like a really good
tire swing even if
Carlton did build
it. Ashley Davis
missed the party
because her Mom
and Dad, Mark
and Tiffani
brought her on the
wrong day, but she
still got to enjoy
the new swing
with Tanner.
Happy Birthday,
Tanner Jones!
I have an update
on the puppies
produced from the joining of the
Penn and Pearman clan. They
only had one puppy. I guess it
makes the choice pretty easy if
you are getting the pick of the
litter. I certainly hope they try
for more real soon, because I
think there is a waiting list for
pups. I ran into the Mamma
Pennhead at the ball game
Friday night and she said I
spelled her name with a "K" and
it started with a "C". Sorry
Cathy (correct spelling). The
Penn family lives on the other
side of Virgil Schochler, so I'm
not the only one that has to deal
with him as a neighbor.
Virgil has been going around
town looking half starved, trying
to get somebody to give him a
free turkey. His daughter
Ginger has already got the
dressing cooked, so don't give
him anything. No bigger than
Virgil is two hummingbirds
would fill him up. He certainly
doesn't need a whole turkey. If
you people can't think of any-
be thankful you don't live next
door to Virgil.
About 22 years ago, my
brother, cousin and I were
working on a construc-
tion job in Dallas for my
grandfather. Virgil was
our boss and we stayed
in the motel room with
him. Before Virgil went
to sleep he called the
motel office and told
them to call and wake
us up at 6 a.m. As soon
as Virgil went to sleep
we called the office and
told them to call at
midnight. My brother
changed the time on
Virgil's watch while he
slept. We all went to
sleep and at twelve the
phone rang. We told Virgil it was
time to get up and he said for us
to go back to sleep and leave him
alone. About thirty minutes later
the lights in the room came on
and there stood Virgil fully
dressed stuffing a handful of
cigars in his front pocket. He
said, "If ya'll are going to work
you better get up' we don't even
have time to eat breakfast." We
had to take him outside to
convince him that it was the
middle of the night and not time
to go to work. He took off his
clothes and went back to bed. He
said he was never staying with
us again. We thought it was real
funny, but I guess he didn't have
a sense of humor then either.
That's all I know, so quit
reading this paper and go enjoy
your holiday. If you want to hear
about some people besides just
the ones I know send me some
news. See ya next week! And
remember, Be thankful for what
you have, there is always
Decorations Go Up
I
Holiday decorations went up last week in downtown Rusk.
City crew men George Sadler, top, and Greg McDuff were busy

Tuesday and the Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 4. The Kiwanis Pancake Supper follows the
