In the third quarter the Bartlett
11 got its most unusual TD. A
punt went through Caffey’s legs.
He had touched the ball which
rolled on over the goal. It was
covered in the end zone by Ad-

14.
The final Bartlett TD followed
recovery of a Thorndale fumble-
this one also on a punt. Kauitz-
sch booted the ball from his own
39 yard line. Caffey caught it at
the Thorndale 20 and fumbled.

headed for the far sidelines.
With some good blocking about
the Bartlett 30 yard line, Lawton
was out ahead of everyone and
not to be stopped. He went over
for what appeared to be a score.
However, the, play was called
back because of a clipping pen-
alty. So, the Bartlett team started
again from the Thorndale 40 yard
line. Six plays later they had put
over the initial touchdown of the
game—scored by Kauitzsch.
The score came with 3:25 mfin-
utes left in the quarter. And,
that’s how the score board looked
at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter saw two
TD’s for Thorndale and one for
Bartlett. The quarter ended with
Thorndale ahead for the first and
only time of the night—14-12.
Touchdowns for the Thorndale
11 were made by Caffey and
Jackson with a very needed extra
two points run over after the
second touchdown by Burke Bau-

The young airman arrived in

his final 16 months of his enlist-
ment time.
The Taylor Duck Freshman
football team battled Gatesville
Freshmen to a 6-6 tie on Memor-
ial Field Saturday night. All the
scoring took place in the early
moments of the game but both
teams had offensive fireworks in
the later stages although neither
scored again.
Gatesville received the opening
kick-off and marched straight
for a touchdown. The little Hor-
nets made five first downs in the
drive with 180 pound fullback Joe
Kopec and quarterback Doak
Smith doing most of the damage.
The big fullback kept the Duck
defense honest from tackle to
Jimmy Welch recovering from a

The Tigers, behind the very
fine running of right halfback
Ronny Menn and left halfback
Ronnie Brannon rolled up a total
of 202 yards rushing. Menn and
Brannon each scored two touch-
towns. Quarterback Dickie Sum-
Mers, completing 10 out of 14
VPass attempts for 214 yards and
two touchdowns, also scored twice
for the Tigers.

but this spark was quenched
when, after moving the ball 43
yards to the Tiger 4, they lost
the ball on downs.
From this point it took the Tig-

yards for 6 more points. Sum-

an effective ground attack and a
top-notch passing offense at Tig-
er Field in Rockdale Friday
night to blast the Taylor Ducks
52-6.
Despite three of the Duck regu-
lar starters seeing limited action
due to illness the past week, the
Taylor lads, being outweighed 16
lbs. per man in the backfield
and 13 lbs. per man on the line,
played their hearts out, but prov-
ed to be no match for the1 heav-
ier, more experienced Tigers.
Fullback Randall Woods, cen-
in to stop him, Smith got out-
side on the keeper play. Smith
got the touchdown from the ten
on a keeper around his right flank.
The run for extra points was un-
successful and Gatesville led 6-0.
Taylor came fighting right
back. The drive slatted on their
40 and carried three first downs
and 60 yards. Work horses for the
Ducks were Robert Teaff at full
and quarterback Bobby Clark.
Rodney Benad turned in one nice
scamper around left end. Teaff
got the score from the three yard
line and the ball game was all
tied up. The run for the points
was no good and from a scoring
standpoint, the game was over.
However Gatesville made two
other scoring sallies that came
to grief. In the second quarter
Smith and Kopec again carried
down to the ten but a holding
penalty nullified a td scamper
by Smith and the Ducks took on
downs to run the clock out.
Again in the second half Smith
rolled out to his left, found run-
ning room and set sail down the
sideline. Bobby Clark refused to
give up and hauled Smith in 70
yards later on the Taylor 10 yard
line. Moments later Larry Martin
recovered Kopec’s fumble to
blunt the drive.
Rodney Benad gave Duck fans
something to cheer about as he
took the second half kick-off, ran
into trouble at the 30 but squirt-
ed free, cut back in front of the
bench and was finally hauled in
at the Gatesville 25.
The drive ran out of gas at
that point however. In the fourth
quarter Clark and Benad teamed
up for another long gainer as the
frosh qualrterback hit Benad in
the right flat with a pass and the

The Bartlett and Thorndale
