LIONS CLUB
With 73 people present at
the Boerne Lions Club on
Thursday, May 15, the club
listened to Robert Sohn, at-
torney-at-law from San Anto-
nio, talk about drug abuse,
frustration, rioting and other
problems.
The speaker mentioned the
following ideas in his presen-
tation: 1. A concerned popu-
lation can do something for
itself. 2. If society is to deal
with its problems we will have
to come up with new ways
of communication to deal with
our problems. 3. Adults will
have to find new ways of
communicating and finding
answers. 4. Passing new laws,
extending the penalty without
eliminating the cause of the
problems is not a logical re-
sponse to the problem. 5.
When the adult world says
“I cannot do anything about
the problems” then the youth’s
ideals and the ideals of Amer-
ica (government of the peo-
ple) has been denied. 6. If
mother and dad refuse to deal
with the problems, then ten
years from now it may be an
unwanted political ideology,
drug addiction, fast cars or
some other escape that will
plague us. 7. We should start
by just meeting and talking
over our problems and the
problems of our community
even if we snicker at the idea
and even if we at first seem
to be even more frustrated
than before. 8. Drug abuse
has its basic cause in an ex-
asperating frustration. 9. In-
volve people in the process of
problem solving — both youth
and adults. 10. Parents should
get involved in community af-
fairs and set an example of
concern for their children and
their community. 11. Any so-
lution will have to improve
the nature of the family.
The attendance prize was
won by R. M. George. Lions
Club district meeting is to be
held June 5-7 at Laredo. Each
Lions Club member is to take
10 Berges Fest tickets to sell
or to donate the $10 them-
selves.
Next meeting of the Lions
Club will be held on Thursday,
June 5, 7:30 p.m., in the Tro-
phy Room, and it is also a
ladies night.
