Leon Anderson earns professional designation
Merle Maxine Ullrich
Merle Maxine Ullrich of Diboll
died Sept. 14 in a Lufkin hospital
following a brief illness. She was
born April 5, 1919, in Joy, 111. A
private memorial service was held
for the family. Hilliard Funeral
Home of Van was in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Ullrich was preceded in
death by her husband, Paul
Ullrich.
Her survivors include four
daughters and two sons-in-law,
Pauline and Leroy Larson of
Homosassa, Fla., Norene Joplin of
Fort Stockton, Janet and Alvin
Jinkins of Rusk and Connie Gor-
don of Lufkin; a son, Dale
McKaham of East Moline, 111; 14
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchil-
dren; and one great-great-grand-
son.
Memorials may be made to the
American Heart Association.
Elton Roy Conn
Funeral for Elton Roy Conn, 75,
of Brookeland, formerly of Alto,
was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14,
at the Stringer & Griffin Funeral
Home Chapel in Jasper. Burial
was in Brookeland Cemetery.
Mr. Conn died Sept. 12 at his
home in Brookeland. He was a
Jasper County native and long-
time Jasper resident. He was an
U.S. Army veteran and a retired
mechanic on farm equipment. He
was a member of the DAY and
VFW.
Survivors are his wife, Mae
Weaver Bradley Conn of
Brookeland; three sons, William
Elliott Bradley Jr. of Rusk, John
Franklin Bradley of Good Springs,
Ala., David Elton Conn of Erin;
two daughters, Laura Mae Olsen
of Spring, Margie Ann Letney of
Brookeland; a sister, Odell Kelley
of Kirbyville; 12 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the
Lakes Area Hospice.
Mary Lillian Reed
Funeral for Mary Lillian Reed,
85, of Alto was at 2 p.m. Tuesday
in the A. Frank Smith United
Methodist Church with the Rev.
Dr. Randy Fitzgerald officiating.
Burial was in Old Jacksonville
Cemetery.
Mrs. Reed died Sunday morning
in Tyler. She was born Aug. 16,
1914, in Jacksonville to Adolphus
and Maggie Ragsdale Dunnam.
Mrs. Reed lived in Houston for
many years and lived in Alto for
the past 20 years. She was a school
teacher for nine years in Lindale.
She was a member of the United
Methodist Women and the A.
Frank Smith United Methodist
Church in Alto.
Mrs. Reed was preceded in death
by her husband, H. Leon Reed, a
daughter, Genelle Reed and grand-
son, David G. Reed.
Survivors are two sons, Leon E.
Reed of Alto and Jerry Reed of
Houston; a sister, Audrey
McGregor of Jacksonville; and
three grandchildren.

served as pallbearers.
Marvin Robert Biggs
Graveside services for Marvin
Robert Biggs, 75, of Port Mansfield
was at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the
Mount Hope Cemetery with the
Rev. Horace Fletcher officiating.
Local arrangements were under
the direction of Wallace-Thomp-
son Funeral Home. The funeral
was held at 11 a.m. Monday at the
Port Mansfield Community
Church under the direction of
Duddleston Funeral Home in
Raymondville.
Mr. Biggs died Sept. 13 at Valley
Baptist Medical Center,
Harlingen. He was born July 26,
1924, in Santa Anna to Roy Pol-
lard Biggs Sr. and Audrey Mae
Ruble Biggs.
He was drafted into the U.S.
Army in 1942. He served as a gun-
ner for the 184th Anti-Aircraft Ar-

Funeral for Rose Nell Grimes,
84, of Jacksonville was at 3:30
p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson
Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Randall Anderson and the
Rev. Corbie Grimes officiating.
Burial was in Grimes Cemetery at
Jacksonville.
Mrs. Grimes died Sept. 19 in
Tyler. She was born Dec. 30,1914,
in Good Springs. She was a home-
maker and a member of the
Nazarene Church.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Dennis Grimes and
three sons, Billy Grimes, Bobby

The CLU program was designed
by University of Pennsylvania Pro-
fessor Solomon S. Huebuer, the
college's founder, to meet the ca-
reer education needs of men and
women primarily in the life insur-
ance field services and manage-
ment. The subject matter covered
by the program includes life and
health insurance, pension plan-
ning, insurance law, income taxa-
tion, investments, financial and
estate planning and group ben-
efits.
Mr. Anderson has been the
agency manager for the Cherokee
County Farm Bureau since De-
cember of 1996. Mr. Anderson be-
gan his career with Farm Bureau
in June of 1993 in the Harris
County office following graduation
from the University of Southern
Mississippi with a degree in Fi-
nance.
He and his wife Amy live in Rusk
where they are raising their twin
boys Austin and Riley. They are
members of Central Baptist
Church in Jacksonville.

Mr. Biggs subsequently moved
to Port Mansfield from Freeport in
December 1960, where he and his
wife operated their own fishing
supply business.
Mr. Biggs was preceded in death
by his wife, Lillie Mae Lusk Biggs,
a former Rusk resident; a daugh-
ter, Elizabeth Carol Scott Kilian.
Survivors are a grandson and
his wife, Captain Dennis and Lori
Kilian ofOdenton, Maryland; two
sisters, Martha Mae Biggs Wright
of Porter and Mary Ellen Biggs
Crocker of Angleton; a brother,
Roy P. Biggs Jr. of Rockport; 10
nieces and two nephews.
Grimes and Ferrell D. Grimes.
Survivors are four daughters,
Shirley Morrow, Kathryn Grimes
and Carolyn Henderson, all of
Jacksonville and Joyce Loden of
Rusk; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-
grandchildren, nieces and neph-
