Mrs. Kidd won
second in word
processing at
the Texas Future
Business Leader-
ship conference
recently in Port Arthur. She is a
sophomore accounting major at South
Plains College, and is the daughter of
Larry and Rita Brooks of Rusk.
She and her husband, Rhett, and
year-old child, Jordyn, live in Level-
land. She is a 2000 graduate of Rusk
High School.
Rusk Junior High dough
sales were successful
Rusk Junior High School assistant
principal John Burkhalter called the
recent cookie dough fundraiser an
overwhelming success.
The school asked for an extra ship-
ment of cookie dough in all flavors, and
a limited supply is available for $10 per
three-pound tub.
The cookie dough is on a first come,
first served basis. For more information

New archaeology group is
forming
An organizing meeting will be held
April 22 at the Tyler Chamber of Com-
merce at 7 p.m. This meeting will help
determine if there is enough interest in
the area to form a local archeological
society. The Tyler Chamber of Com-
merce building is located at 316 N.
Broadway Ave, north of the square
in downtown Tyler.Suggested topics
a local chapter could explore include:
how to recognize and properly record
archeological sites, site preservation,
volunteer opportunities in archeology,
field trips to near by archeological sites,
current archeological projects in the area
persons to invite as guest speakers.

The District 2 S-1 Lions Club's
District Convention will be held
April 22-23 at
the Fredonia
Convention
Center in
Nacogdoches.
The District
Governor for
District 2
S-l is David
Middleton
from the Alto
Lions Club.
Jimmy M. Ross, second vice
president of the International
Association of Lions Clubs,
will be the guest speaker. Vice
President Ross is a retired
judge and businessman from
Quitaque.
A Lion since 1969, Mr. Ross
is a member of the Quitaque
Lions Club. Vice President Ross
has held many offices within
the association, including club
president, lieutenant district
governor, multiple district sec-
retary, state membership and
exten sion chairp er son, multiple
district council chairperson and
international director.
Additionally, he has taken
part in an eyeglass recychng
mission to South America,
chartered more than 200 clubs
and was a speaker at seven
forums and seven international
conventions.
In recognition of his ser-
vice to the association he has
received numerous awards,
including two District Gov-
ernor Appreciation Awards,
six International President's
Awards and the Ambassador
of Good Will Award, the high-
est honor bestowed upon asso-
ciation members. He is also a
Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions
activities, Mr. Ross is active
in numerous professional and
Community organizations.
He was elected to the board of
director's of Water Control and
Improvement, district board of
directors of Lighthouse Elect
Co-op, chairperson of board
of 911 Emergency Systems in
the top 26 counties of Texas,
board of the District Juvenile
Probation and County Disaster
Management chairperson.
He is also a member of
the Quitaque Chamber of
Commerce, board of County
Appraisal and the Task Force
for Industrial and Tourism
Development.
He was also elected to be
among the Outstanding Young
Men of America by the United
States Jaycees and was named
Man of the Year.
Mr. Ross and his wife, Velda,
have three children.
District 2 S-l extends from
Beaumont to Jacksonville.

Rusk schedules clean-up
Rusk city-wide clean-up is
planned for Saturdays, April
30 and May 7. Hours for both
days aré 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. This
clean-up drive is available
only to residents living in the
city limits Or utility customers
outside Rusk. The dump site
will be monitored. Collection
locations will be at the city
barn on U.S. Highway 69 N..
Brookshire Bros, parking lot
and Conley Park.
Items that will not be accepted
include liquids of any kind, oil
or oil filters, refrigerators, air
conditioning units and any
other appliances contain-
ing CFC's (Freon), lead acid
batteries, hazardous waste,
chemicals or pesticides, medi-
cal waste of any kind and dead
animals. Whole tires will not be
accepted. They must be split or
quartered. Paint or paint buck-
ets will be accepted onlyifpaint
is completely dried and free of
liquid.
Items that can be placed in
the dumpsters include brush,
yard waste, furniture, outdoor
grills, dishwashers, appliances
not using Freon, lawn mowers,
construction debris, mattress
and water heaters. Persons
may dispose of anything as
long as it is not on the non-
acceptable hst.
