I honor our flag, obey the
laws, respect the Constitution
and worship Gocl. However,
there are some who think their
ideas should be put into place
regardless of laws and try to
change our Constitution to fit
their purpose. They are try-
ing to change the foundation
of our country.
Our Pledge of Allegiance has
been discriminated against
because of the words "under
God.'" Prayer was taken out
of our schools: our flag has
been dishonored by burning
it. How could this haye hap-
pened since our country was
founded on principles, prayer
and God?
At the first National Flag
Conference in Washington,
D.C.. on June 14, 1923, a
change Was made for charity
in the Pledge of Allegiance:
"the Flag of United States'
replaced "my flag." In 1942
Congress officially recognized
the Pledge of Allegiance: and
in June 1954,. an amendment
was made to add the words
"under God."
President Dwight D. Eisen-
hower said, "In this way we are

On behalf of Alto ISD, I
would hke to thank every-
one who helped put on our
Veteran's Day program last
Monday. It was, indeed, a
"team" effort. The program
was coordinated by the AI IS
Student Council, led by spon-
sor Sue Zane Robinson.
First andforemost, we want
to thank our veterans who
served our country and their
families.
The VFW provides many
services for these men and
women, and also provided
poppies for us to wear. Our
band FEA chapter, athletic
dep ar trnent, cheerle a dors
andfaculty and staff provided
invaluable assistance.
The luncheon provided by
the cafeteria staff for our
honorees and their family
members was wonderful, and
the elementary students' deco-
rations and songs were much
appreciated.
Thanks also to Chris Davis
for "calling the roll."
We look forward to an even
bigger andbetter appreciation
ceremony next year.

People wonder what has
become of our country Many
things have happened like
9-11, Katrina, earthquakes
and more. They don't realize
these things are taking place
because of us.
Our country was estabhshed
under the principle of "life,
hberty and the pur suit of hap-
piness." We are to have equal-
ity in everything, including
marriages, freedom of speech
andreligion. Wehave forgotten
that the constitution was made
to protect individual rights
ordained by God. He gave our
forefathers this country, and it
started out as a Godly nation.
It has gone downhill since. We
have taken God out, thinking
this country was great not
because of God but because of
us. We got proud and greedy.
It has gotten so bad that our
children are not allowed to
p ray pubhcly because it might

I would hke to take time out
of my busy schedule to extend
my thanks to Cherokee Coun-
ty Judge Chris Davis and the
other Cherokee County em-
ployees for their cooperation
in assisting myself and my
colleague, Mr. Jerry Bright,
in expediting theprojectwork-
sheet formulation process for
your county.
It is only through the com-
bined efforts of the KE M A
Project Specialist and the
county's employees that the
project worksheets can be
formulated and written in a
timely, accurate and thorough
manner. I want to especially
thank the laches in the County
Treasurer's office for all of
their hard work.
That brings me to another
reason of why I am writing to
you. I would hke to commend
the efforts of one particular
County Commissioner in
Cherokee County. Mr. Byron
Underwood of Precinct # 4.
Although a newly installed
Commissioner, he impressed
myself and my Public As-
sistance Coordinator, Mr.
Chapman, with his handling
of this disaster.
At the kick-off meeting in
August, he already had a
binder full of photos of the
damage prior to repairs, and
also all of the labor, equip ment
and materials used at each of
the individual job sites,
This kind of thorough docu-
mentation is a Project Special-
ist's "dream come true" as it
makes the project worksheet
process easier and much more
expedient. Mr. Underwood's
foreman, Greg Gregory, was
also instrumental in the
development of the project
worksheets.
Mr. Underwood was very
familiar with the precinct's
damages andrepairs that had
been made, and I was able
to inspect in upwards of 40
damage sites in a little over
a day's time.
I have been involved in
numerous other major di-
saster declarations, and Mr.
Underwood and Mr. Gregory
are by far some of the most
knowledgeable, professional
and helpful apphcant repre-
sentatives that Ihavehadthe
pleasure to work with during
a disaster.
As a fellow Texan, it has
been an honor and privilege
for me to serve my fellow
Texans in their hour of need,
and it makes my job so much
better when aided by kind,
friendly, knowledgeable and
helpful staff such as the staff
of Cherokee County, Pet. 4,
I would hke to personally
extend my heartfelt thanks
for their courteous and pro-
fessional service during this
disaster.

ance specialist who worked in

offend someone. Long ago our
nation had morals and the Ten
Commandments. The majority
of our country were Christians
that tried to live by Biblical
standards. So manyproféssing
Christians today do not actu-
ally hve by Bibhcal standards,
although they think they do.
We have let things like gay
marriages and pornography
take over. Unfortunately, the
Bible reveals these things are
an abomination of Him.
Violence is bad because God
is not here anymore.
The scripture says "He will
humble a great nation that in

and blessing.'' Revelations
talks of wars, famine and pes-
tilence, which we are already
seeing.
If our nation does not turn
around and once again strive
for God, things will only con-
tinue to get worse.
