82, of Jacksonville was at 2
p.m. Saturday at First Baptist
Church in Rusk with the Rev.
Lee Welch and the Rev. Johnny
Hailes officiating. Burial was
in Still Waters Memorial
Gardens.
Mrs. Welch died July 13.She
was born June 18, 1928, in
Wichita F alls.
Mrs. Welch was a member of
First Baptist Church in Rusk,

Whitley. She lived in Cherokee
County many years and was
a member of the Jacksonville
Church of Christ. She was a
homemaker andwasemployed
as a nurse's aid and at Rusk
State Hospital.
She wasprecededin death by

Survivors are her husband,

Mr. Chauvin (lied July 16.
He was born July 25, 1924, in
Houma, La. to the late Dany
andNolieDupre Chauvin. Mr.
Chauvin was aresident of Jack-
sonville. Formerly he hved in
Rusk where he was a member of
the Salem Missionary Baptist
Church. Mr. Chauvin retired
in December of 1989 after 22
years as a petroleum geologist
for the U.S. Geological Survey.
He was also a staff geologist
for 20 years with Phillips Pe-
troleum. Mr. Chauvin served
in the United States Army Air
Force during World War II. I Ic
was a gardener and tourna-
mentbowler. Hewaspreceded
in death by his parents; first
wife, Irene Chauvin; daughter.
Karla Musk; brother, Nesson
Chauvin; andtwo sisters, Dolly
Griffin and Patsy Lyons.
Survivors are his wife of
22 years, Melba Chauvin of
Jacksonville; four sons and
daughters-in-law, Al Jr. and
Charlene Chauvin of Lafayette,

vin of Lafayette, Dennis and

Sweet Union Baptist Church

Rev. W.D. Brown officiating.
Burial was in Jacksonville
City Cemetery.
Mr. Williams died July 7.
He was born June 29, 1944,
in Navasota.
He was a graduate of Fred
Douglas High School and
attended Prairie View A&M
University. Hewasagraduate
of Commonwealth Mortuary
College.
He was a member and trust-
ee of the Sweet Union Baptist
Church and a veteran of the
Vietnam War. Mr. Williams
was a mortician at Williams
Funeral Home.

LMC adds engineering
courses to curriculum
Lon Morris College in
Jacksonville has added
engineering courses to its
curriculum and will begin
offering these classes start-
ing in the fall seme ster which
begins Aug. 26.
All students interested in
the field of engineering can
now get the first two years of
engineering courses at Lon
Morris College andmaycom-
plete an Associate of Science
Degree in the engineering
field of study.
The engineering program
is under the direction of Don
Young, chair of the Depart-
ment of Math, Computer
Science, and Engineering.
Mr. Young has a bachelor's
degree in electrical engi-
neering from the University
of Texas at Austin and a
master's degree in electrical
engineering from Southern
Methodist University.
Students interested in an
engineering career are in-
vitedto join the small college
atmosphere that provides
all courses students need
to be ready to move on to a
four year university. Stu-
dents are invited to contact
