A free open air concert given by the
Dave Derden band on the lawn of th*
eity auditorium last night brought th*
f Arif observance of Memorial Day
her* to a close. The concert was ar-
ranged through the courtesy of the
Irena Summerly playera and was well
attended.
J Observance af the day began Sanday
7 with the decorating of >1 graves of
World war veterans as well as graves
i of veterans of the Civil and Spanish-
American wars. The ceremonies wore
eonducted by ths American Legion and
the ladies auxiliary who- decorated with
flags and flowers respectively. Flowers
were donated by local citizens.
Two baseball games yesterday, • golf
tournament, outdoor excursions and the
hand concert last night featured the
| day's activities here.
Poppy Sales Exceed $800
A total of $804 70 was received by the
Ladies auxiliary of the American Legion
from the sale of Memorial Day poppies,
including sales to the busineas houses
for decoration purposes and atreet sales '
Saturday. it was reported by Mrs. H.
I. Pond, secretary-treasurer, last night
after a final eheck up.
Expenses had not been taken out of
the total receipts. It is not known just
what the expenses amounted to, Mrs.
Pond stated, but the amount will be
quite small, she acid. No report had
I been received from members of the
auxiliary who now reside in Pampa,
, and who obligated themselves to sell
SCO poppies for the local unit. Their
.ales were expected to be about $50,
it" was said.
Not more than 200 of the more than
6.000 poppies ordered by the local
auxiliary were left ever after the street
sales Saturday, and these were used in
the decorations of the veterans’ graves '
in LIsno cemtery Sunday afternoon.
Half the proceeds from the sale of.
poppies will go to the fund of the
local unit, while the other half will be
sent to the state department at Austin.
