protested, but she only quoted part
of the 91st Psalm: “Nor for the
pestilence that walketh in darkness;
nor for the destruction that wasteth
at noonday.” And, “There shall be
no evil befall thee, neither shall any
plague come nigh thy dwelling.”
“I believe that Psalm means just
what it says,” she told the others.
“It is a clear call for me to go. God
wil take care of you.”
She went, and was in that home
for five weeks. When they were
practically well again she went back
home. Neither she nor her family
contracted the disease. Her kindly
act did more to raise the spiritual
level of that community than all the
sermons her husband preached.
The scriptures associate health,
prosperity and longevity with
godliness. Notice Psalm 91, for
instance. It opens with a believer

speaking of the blessedness of
dwelling “in the secret place of the
Most High” (vl).
Then the Psalmist tells us, “I will
say of the Lord, He is my refuge and
my fortress, my God; in Him will I
trust” (v2). As we read further, we
are given a series of divine promises
(vv3-13). Then God declares that He
will deliver, protect, honor and give
long life to the one who trusts Him.
The example of Job and John the
Baptist show us that in God’s great
wisdom He sometimes permits His
choicest saints to experience
difficult trials or to die young.
Still, the general principle of
Psalm 91 applies — godliness does
lead to blessing. Dark times may
indeed come but if we place our
trust in God, we can look for His
favor in our lives. He delights in
blessing His own.
Oswald C.J. Hoffmann, in his
book “Life Crucified” wrote: Is it
possible to trust in God for the big
things like forgiveness and eternal
life, and then refuse to trust Him for ,
the little things like clothing and
food?”

TO THE EDITOR:
Thank you for your excellent
articles and coverage for our
“Oktoberfest in Boerne” which was
held on October 24. The evening,
from all reports, was a huge success,
and much of that credit belongs to •
you and the media staff in your
office because you supported us so
tremendously in getting the
community excited about the
evening.
It is a pleasure to work with
people who care about Boerne and
strive for excellence in their
reporting.
The Greater Boerne Area
Chamber of Commerce plans to
present a second annual “Oktober-
fest in Boerne” next year.

TO THE EDITOR:
A bull by the horns? You bet!!
That is what it would seem is what
our esteemed commissioners have
, to contend with as they wrestle for a
decision on the junk-yard ordinance
proposal. Having accepted the
challenge of wrestling that bull,
they are now faced with a problem
of even greater magnitude. What
are they to do to wrestle that critter
to a winning decision? No easy task,
I admit. As they saying goes, “you
can’t please all of the people all of
the time”. That was certainly
apparent at the first of the hearings
, the commissioners scheduled to
seek community input. The

TO THE EDITOR:
IT’S NOT MY SHOE! But, I must
admit, I am growing increasingly
fonder of it — or should I say them,
every day.
Is there anyone in the Boerne
area who has not driven down South
Main in the last few weeks and
noticed the city’s most recent
newcomers? If not, I feel privileged
to be the first to introduce them to
you: They are Effie Sue FitzWareit
and Hard E. Sneaker. Originally
they were just a couple of lost soles
searching for a place to kick up their
heels until they came to reside
between Hickman Street and
Highland Drive in Boerne.
They have been in town about a
month now and have already
become well acquainted with the
tourists that stay at the Boerne
Motel, the Catholics, the visitors
who frequent the park in the area,
and the customers at the Beef and
Brew restaurant.
I can guarantee you that they are
well adapted for life in the heel
Dr. Joseph Doenges, superintend-
ent of the Boerne Independent
School District, will be the guest
speaker at the regular monthly
meeting of Kendall County
Republican Women, Tuesday
November 10. Dr. Doenges will
discuss and answer questions about
the upcoming bond issue the
sentiments (and constructive
comments) certainly indicated
individual perception of the impact
of the proposed ordinance to be as
varied as there were attendees.
Many valid questions and concerns
were raised by concerned persons.
Some were merely curious. Still
others, motivated perhaps by an “I”
syndrome, expressed strong
opposition to any proposal which
* would serve to further increase
governmental beauracracy; or
provide for dictatorship over their
pursuit of individual causes, without
regard for community interest.
Sorting out the concerns and
arriving at a decision would seem an
impossible task — certainly worthy
of the connotation, “on the horns
of a dilemna” since, obviously, no
decision can he the right one to
satisfy everyone. Hopefully, the
final decision will serve the
interests of the people who elected
this authority to offer and uphold
the high standards we hold them to.
Personally, I think our
commissioners have done well,
considering the limited tools at their
disposal, in molding the future of
our community. We should applaud
them, and with our support,
encourage them to continue in their
direction and activities in pursuit of
our community interests and

As of his writing, they have not
