The five teams remaining in the seven-team Central
Texas baseball tournament go about the business of
deciding a champion this weekend with 1974 runnerup
Hardin-Simmons University still rating the favorite's tag.
Three games are on tape for Camp Bowie Municipal
Sports Center Saturday night, with at least two and

champions of the Brownwood teenage league, and H-SU.
Both are undefeated and the winner advances to Sunday
afternoon's finals. Saturday’s third game will match the
Jets against the Rebel-Bomber winner
Play will resume Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last Sunday’s games found the Lions edging the Rebels
4-3, H-SU decisioning the Bombers 9-4 and the Jets

But the Saints got a run back in
the same inning on an error and
another Clements single.
That made it 6-2 and set the
stage for that five-run Vet fifth
that featured just one hit — a
single by E. J. Bible. Two walks
and three Saint errors kept the
rally alive.
Pearce led off the Saint sixth
with a walk, Beard singled and
Howard knocked them both in
with a double of the wall.
Manley, Beard and Clements
had two hits each for the Saints,
while Perry, Hicks and Bible
collected one each for the Vets.
The Saints now move on to the
district tournament scheduled
to open later this month at
Camp Bowie.
