The Retail Merchants Association will
meet tonight at 8 o’clock in the Guaranty
State Bank. The by-laws of the newly or-
ganized association will be read and adopt-
ed and everything will be put into running
order. All members and all merchants of
the city are invited to be present.
S. C. Wilkes caught a young man-eating
shark in the bay yesterday. The shark was
a youngster but was of a size which puts up
a good fight.

Saturday, July 11, will be the greatest.

Local Encampment No. 30, I. 0. 0. F.,
have changed the time and place of their
meetings. Henceforth, in place of meet-
ing every first and third Thursday up town,
they will meet every first and third Friday
of each month in the I. L. A. Hall, Fourth
street. There was one new member initiat-
ed at the last meeting.
J. D. Pruessner, the florist, had his for-
mal opening yesterday and many Texas City
people who appreciate things beautiful
turned out. The little flower shop in
the Lauer Theater building is up-to-date
and Mr. Pruessner is here to stay.
Mrs. Tom Burke and son, John, of Gal-
veston, are visiting with Mrs. EmilyDover,
on Seventh Avenue.

Cleveland, July 7.—Cleveland’s municipal
dance halls are a decided success. This fact
was today attested to by Mayor Baker
and other officials who have watched the
operation of “clean dancing” at three cents
per dance in the city park pavilions.
The dances are open air affairs. Every
Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Sawyer with their
children, Ruby and Gerald, motored to
Beaumont last Friday. The trip going was
very pleasant, and after enjoying the hos-
pitality of the Reverend and Mrs. G. B.
Norton, and other Episcopal friends, the
pleasure party had a delightful auto trip
home, arriving safely in Texas City Sun-
day evening.
A quiet wedding of cordial interest to
many friends was solemnized at the home

The bride wore a handsome traveling
Nine thousand, nine hundred and seventy-
seven tickets were sold at Edgewater Park
pavilion on the opening night. The munici-
pal chaperon had an easy time. But one
unruly character had to be put off the floor.
The culprit was a frisky little mongrel “pup”
who slipped by the doorkeeper and had the
time of his life trying to chew the dancers’
heels. He eluded Miss Marguerite Reilly
until the music stopped and then he was
caught and unceremoniously bounced.
At Woodland Hills pavilion, Mrs. A.
Sullivan the chaperon, had not a single case
to need her attention though 5,624 paid for
dances. Total recepits at the two municipal
dances on the opening night were $462.03,
