ice Tuesday evening at their
Kickoff Dance
For Forty-Niners
A kickoff dance win start the
new season for the Forty Niners
square dance club Thursday eve-
ning and guests and newcomers
are cordially invited.
Fred Kisling, 'chairman of the
club and caller, has invited all
who wish to learn the dancing to
feel welcome. He will call along
with guest callers Thursday eve-
ning.
Dancing will begin at 8.
During the business session
presided over by Miss Virginia
Lauderdale, Mrs. Ruel Mitchell
was elected delegate to attend
the federation meeting in Den-
ton. Nov. 4. 5 and 6. Mrs. Mar-
cus Austin will represent the
Gainesville club on the program.
The hymn of the month, “Faith
of Our Fathers”, was historically
described by Mrs. Culp and the
group then' sang the verses to
her piano accompaniment.
Refreshments were served the

From TV Shows
Mrs. Dottie Ryan joined her
husband. Herbert Ryan, in Dallas
Tuesday evening, returning from
Minneapolis, Minn., after a suc-
cessful tour of ten large cities
where she appeared on television
programs demonstrating dance
steps to “The Skokiaan.”

church in her hands.
Following the charges the new

Iris Club Speaker
Mrs. Charles Massey was
speaker for the Gainesville Iris
club Monday evening in the home
of Mrs. I. D. Reed, 306 Andrews
street, with Mrs. A. B. Findley
as cohostess. She told the women
that nothing gives as much pleas-
ure and beauty for so little ef-
fort as bulbs in her talk on "Fall
Planting of Spring Bulbs.”
The Reed home was decorated
with arrangements created by
Mmes. Claude McCarty, B. J.
Siebel and Fred Kisling.
Mrs. Dock Dudley presided and
reminded the group that Mrs.
Elizabeth Turney Stephens of Sil-
verton. N. M.. will be in Gaines-
ville Oct. 27 at the Community
Center building to talk on na-
tive and dried materials, drift-
wood and Indian influence in the
arts of today.
Mrs. Pauline Green and Mrs.
Paul MeBee were elected to mem-
bership in the club. Mrs. Dudley
told the group she plans to at-
tend the state board meeting at
Marshall, Oct. 20 and 21 and the
district board meeting at Sher-
mart, Oct. 28.
Refreshments were served to
the 20 members present.
Book Review for
Negro Baptists
A book, “The Backside O’ No-
where- Africa" will be reviewed
in portions each Friday after-
noon during October at the An-
tioch Baptist church for Negro
adults, intermediates and juniors.
Mrs. Eva Dobkins will give the
lesson studies from 4 until 5 p:m.
Mrs. Dobkins will also assist
the junior and intermediate choirs
from 4:45 to 5 and after the study
