AN OPEN LETTER TO
BENJAMIN F. FAIRLESS
Dear Sir:
I have just read with much ih-
terest your article In United
States News. Forecast 1955.
I realize at th outset that you
are a brilliant man and also that
I am just an old Texan not even
known much beyond my commu-
nity. but in the true laws of eco
nomics and nature, there are
fundamental things that must
happen which causes me to think
maybe someone is whistling in
the graveyard to keep up his
courage.
In the past year. 460 million
dollars have been let by the Pen
tagon for army tanks that will
be as obsolete in a war now as a
cap pistol. Of course, these tanks
contain lots of steel, ilow can
we ever pay our national debt"
How can the consumers of this
ation ever pay their outrageous
debts? I ask these questions be
cause in a nation where freedom
and liberty prevail, debts must
be paid and in my personal opin
ion we will be forced to go
through the wringer, hit the
ground from this artificial height
from which we have traveled
these past 22 years and start the
long uphill climb to freedom and
liberty.
I venture the opinion without
fear of contradiction, that 30c out
of every dollar that has changed
hands in the United States in the
past 22 years was government
give-away money. That is why
