TUESDAY JUNE 19 ’BB.
THOMAS HARRISON
EMINENT EVANGELIST.
Thomas Harrison usually known as
“the Boy Preacher” has been at work
the last five months in New York
City where is about to be held a day
of religious rejoicing on account of his
success. Two thousand persons have
“found religion” under nis ministry
within the short time covered by his
B resent visit to the metropolis. Mr.
[arrison will continue his prosperous
and happy toil some time longer in
New York. The middle of August he
will begin probably the most impor-
tant engagement of his life when lie
will take full charge of the far-famed
camp-meeting at Sing-Sing New
York. His present labors will thus lie
supplemented by what promises to be
much more productive ones the con-
ditions of evangelical effort at camp-
meeting a fervid atmosphere and
teeming crowds of people being espe-
cially favorable to the conversion of
sinners in large numbers.
The evangelist is an exceedingly in-
teresting as he unquestionably is a
useful man. It is observed that his
converts “stick” and great is the gain
to the community that his ministry is
effective irf the making of good citi-
zens. Believers and unbelievers alike
find cause for gratification in this fact.
His full name is John Thomas Harri-
son but he is ordinarily called Thomas
or Tommy. He is a local preach-
er of the Methodist Episco-
pal denomination belonging to the
quarterly conference of the Boston
district in the New England confer-
ence. His aged mother lives at the
Hub and his home is with her if in-
deed a Methodist evangelist may be
said to have a home. Thomas was
born at Dorchester Boston in the
year of 1854. He is of English descent
on both sides and is proud of a Meth-
odist ancestry. Dr. Matthew Ritchie
for forty “years a leader of Canadian
Methodism and President of its Con-
ference was Mr. Harrison’s mother’s
uncle. His grandfather was a local
Sreacher of the Wesleyan Church St.
ohn’s New Brunswick. The connec-
tion of his family on both sides with
Methodism dates back without break
for more than a hundred years. Mr.
Harrison has been a member of the
church more than twenty years.
He was educated in the Grammar
School and at the Academy Bos-
ton! In 1872 he went to Brooklyn
and entered the Rev. Dr. T. De
Witt Talmage’s College an insti-
tution since defunct where he studied
theology the Bible and methods of
preaching. While he was an inmate
of the college Mr. Harrison became
engaged in aggressive Christian work
in New England. The revival at-
tending his ministry on this occasion
was of such extraordinary magnitude
that it led to his giving up everything
else in order to devote his whole time
to preaching as a traveling evange-
list. From that time his life has been
almost entirely given up to revival
work. In Philadelphia Baltimore
and Washington thousands have
professed conversion as the result of
nis efforts. The same is also true of
Cincinnati and St. Louis. At Spring-
field Illinois in 1866 twenty-two
hundred persons made profession of
religion in the seventeen weeks.of his
preaching in that place. The Whole
city of Indianapolis is described as
having been moved in 1881 such was
the power of Mr. Harrison’s preach-
ing. Now that of New York is added
to the list of his greatest successes.
Our picture makes it plain why its
subject is called “the Boy Preacher.”
While preserving very much the as-
pect of youthfulness Mr. Harrison has
considerable quiet dignity. His man-
ner in social intercourse is almost re-
served but he says bright and witty
things and his eyes are singularly
expressive of the sense he entertains
of what is being said or done. In
public while exceedingly animated
interesting and ; as the word is “mag-
netic” he maintains absolute self-
possession. There is method even in
the physical intensity of his manner
of exhortation. His “set” sermons
have solid doctrinal instruction as
their basis; livelv and energetic they
are not unstudied and incoherent.
Mr. Harrison seldom preaches more
than half an hour but he is a tre-
mendous “worker” in the prayer-
meeting and knows the secret of set-
ting everybody else who can do it to
work with him. Ministers and lay-
men alike yield to his domination at
these times. In common with Mr.
Moody he finds in lively and hearty
singing powerful assistance in his
work.

NOTICE.
Beware of Fraudulent Immitations
My invention a medicinal preparation
which I have introduced under the
name of "Wm. Radam's Microbe Killer
sold in one <D gallon jugs only has
made a reputation to such an extent that
different unprincipaled parties have tried to
deceive tha public by using the same Juge and
synononimous words of my registered Trade
Mark.
My invention is protected by letters patents
and trade mark label and circulars all copy-
righted.
There Is now a secret organization adver-
tising and offering for sale a preparation put
in jugs similar to mine and they are using
similar names synonamous with the genuine
article such as Microbe Destroyer Bacteria
Destroyer etc. to induce sale of their decoc-
tion. il warn all such immitators and im
posters who are tampering with my patents
that I williprosecute them to the full extent
of the law.
Imitations can easily be detected by the
purchasers if they will use due care. The
name on the label should in every case be
“Wm. Kadam’s Microbe Killer” at the
bottom should be my signature and over
the top of:the cork should be astamp.
showing date of my registered Trade mark.
Any juglthat does not have these distinctive
marks on the jug is a fraud.
I do not think San Antonio people can be so
easily duped again: this is the second attempt
at imitation of my medicine here and the
former experience of those so meanly de-
ceived will no doubt protect many.
If you are sick use only “ Wm. Kadam’s
Microbe Killer” and you will soon see its good
results; you will always see the same jugs
labels and boxes stamped with my name and
the above Trade Mark.
The medicine is introducing itself every-
where from its own merit.
I have made all preparations and will have
ten laboratories in different parts of the
country in working order in about ten
months. This is proof that Wm. Kadam’s
Microbe Killer is all I claim for it.
Any information or circulars will be cheer
fully given on application. Wm. Radam
