YEARS A PRACTICING
ATTORNEY IS DEAD
Funeral Services Will Be
Held Thursday Af-
ternoon.
SMon Stewart 69 for 30 years a
resident of this citv and a practic-
ing attorney died at bis home 114
Cedar street at 8:15 Wednesday
night. He was a native of Baltimore
but had been a resident of Texas for
more than 51 years being admitted
to the bar in 1872 in Goliad.
In 1876 Air. Stewart moved to
Bracketvilli' at which place he held
several politieal'positions holding the
office of county attorney member of
the Texas Legislature in 1882 and re-
fusing the position of district attor-
ney. offered by Governor Ross.
Mr. Stewart was assistant United
States district attorney for the west-
ern district of Texas from 1885 to
1889 under the first Cleveland ad-
ministration. He was president of the
San Antonio Bar Association in 1920.
Since coining to San Antonio he has
held no other offices.
Surviving are his widow Mrs. So-
lon Stewart and a son Solon K. Stew-
art both of San Antonio; a brother
Thomas R. Stewart of New Mexico
and four sisters. Mrs. F. S. Williams
of Phoenix Ariz.: Mrs. John Dcats
of Los Angeles Mrs. Anna LeComte
of New York City and Mrs. Sarah
Whaley of New Mexico.
The funeral will be held from the
residence at 3 o’clock Thursday with
services later at St. Mark's Episco-
pal Church Rev. Arthur S. Huston
officiating. Interment will be in city
cemetery No. 4. under the direction
of Porter Loring funeral director.
Pallbearers will be Judge R. B. Mi-
nor Ed Halton. Frank C. Davis John
A. James H. IL Paulus and Joseph
Ryan.
GIVE HISTORICAL PLAY
Noted Actors to Appear at National
Theater Tonight.
Luis Martinez del Tovar a cele-
brated Spanish actor. Virginia Fab-
regas widely known -Mexican actress
and a very strong company will play
Thursday night at the National
Theater the historical play known as
"The Cardinal” which they have suc-
cessfully played in Spain and Italy
and throughout South America.
The play is founded on the life of
the Medici family the great Florentine
family that ruled Florence and Rome
and on which the world wide novel
Lucrecia Borgia was written.
Tovar takes the part of Juan of
Medici a Cardinal of Rome who after-
wards reached the Papacy and Vir-
ginia Fabregas the part of Cataline
of Medici the well known historical
character.
The greatest part of the drama is
reached when Cardinal Medici refused
to divulge the secrets of the confes-
sional to the emperor of Rome even
to save his own brother Julian the
Apostate who was innocentl. charged
with crime.
The play is a very strong one
based on the politics of the middle
ages.

Fry found McDonough at the house
occupied by Swift who was not at
home. The former was repairing his
car.
The liquor was found in 10 gallon
kegs. In order to destroy the liquor
the kegs were perforated by shots
from a revolver and the liquor allowed
to run out through the bullet holes.
Charges of conspiracy to possess
liquor were first filed against the two
defendants. After the release of Mc-
Donough. the charges of conspiracy
were automatically dropped against
Swift and he was held on a simple
charge of possession.
Uvalde Pioneer Dies.
Uvalde Tex.. March 22.—Mrs. N;
E. Vaughan 78 died at her home
heer early Sunday moraing and burial
was made in the Uvalde cemetery
Tuesday afternoon the funeral serv-
ices being conducted nt the Baptist
Church by the Rev. C. F. Andrews
pastor. Mrs. Vaughan was born in
Kentucky July 26 1845 and was
married to J. F. Vaughan in 1869.
In 1873 they came to Texas making
their home in Uvalde which at that
time was a strictly frontier town
theer being no railroad nearer than
Columbus. The Indians held sway in
much of the country. Several years
after coming to Uvalde Mr. Vaughan
died and Mrs. Vaughan has made
this her home since. Surviving are
her sister Mrs. M. L. Gividen of
Lawrenceburg Ky.; her niece Mrs.
Dan T. Morris and grandniece. Miss
Margaret Ellen Morris of Lexington.
Ky. who started for Uvalde as soon
as they received word of Mrs.
Vaughan’s illness but did not arrive
until after her death.

Aged Uvalde Farmer Dies.
Uvalde. Tex.. March 22.— George
H. Brigman 70 a resident of this
place for seventeen years died nt his
home Tuesday morning and burial was
made in the Uvalde cemetery Wed-
nesday afternoon. Mr. Brigman was
born in Cherokee county Texas. Jan-
uary 2.8 1553 and moved to Uvalde
from Seymour Baylor county in
1906. Since coming here he has been
engaged in the livestock and farming
industry. He served for many years
as a school trustee of tile Uvalde In-
dependent School District. Surviv-
ing him are his widow one son.
Fred Brigman; three brothers and
three sisters. J. L. Brigman of Sey-
mour. W. P. Brigman and M. A.
Brigman of Decatur Tex.; Mrs.
Mary Sheutliff of Breckenridge; Mrs.
Jane Berry and Miss Eula Brigman
of Wichita Falls. Funeral services
were conducted at the Methodist
Church by the Rev. A. T. White and
the services at the cemetery were
given under the auspices of the local
Masonic lodge.

Tlirco Thieves Escape Pursuers in
Free-for-all Kaze.
Three Mexican youths.. after steal-
ing two automobile casings proved
too fleet of foot to be captured by
half a dozen employes of the San
Antonio Public Service Company at
9:36 Wednesday night. Though chased
for twenty minutes the trio succeed-
ed in making their escape.
The boys it is said stole the cas-
ings from a garage near North Press
and Market streets. Discovered in
the act. they were pursued. After
the youthful thieves had made good
their escape the police deparmtent
was notified. Police Captains Brown
and Stevens Detective Captain Street
and Officers Ramschissel Christoph
and McGee responded.
ALLEN IS COMING
General Here During War-time Will
Visit City Soon.
Preliminary plans for a Henry T.
Allen day at the Kiwanis Club fol-
lowed the receipt of a letter from the
former commander of the Ninetieth
Division that he will visit San An-
tonio in the near future.
Business houses and civic organiza-
tions of San Antonio united in a let-
ter several weeks ago expressing their
desire to have General Allen make
San Antonio his home after his retire-
ment from the army. An invitation
was also extended to him by the Ki-
wanis Club to speak at a luncheon
session.
Following is the reply from General
Allen to Henry Hirshberg president:
"Although somewhat tardy by rea-
son of various things that have come
up in replying Io your delightful tele-
gram which reached me on board the
ship nt the quarantine station I am
nevertheless deeply appreciative of the
good wishes that your club extends to
me through you in respect to making
San Antonio my home. It gives me
great satisfaction that you claim me
as a San Antonian. Never will the
memories of the delightful co-operation
