The committee spokesmen declared
that the antilease advocates, were un-
daunetd by the success of the admin-
istration fight yesterday in the senate
to continue the system. The adminis-
tration resolution, which passed both
houses, expressed the sense of the leg-
islature that there shall be no further
legislation on the subject of abolishing
the Convict lease system during the
pi esent term. This action, antilease
advocates claim, is unconstitutional
and is in in effect "gag rule” upon not
only the legislature, but the people.

Sears said in his signed statement he
went to .washroom about 2 o’clock this
morning, and coming out of the dark-

tally shot himself in the left arm. In
the first flush of dismay at the occur-
rence, his mind flashed to the burglar
alarm. Firing three times from the
bank window, he then turned on the
alarm.
Newspapermen in the Associated
Press bureau, close to the bank, mean-

over to the bank. Sears told them and

Ing word from Silby Barrett of Glace
Bay, Nova Scotia, whom he has ap-
pointed provisional president of the

No. 26 was revoked by Mr. Lewis for
the refusal of its officers to call off
the strike of miners at Glace Bay.
In his communication to Daniel Liv-
ingstone, former president of district
No. 26, revoking the charter, Mr. Lewis
stated that Instructions would be is-
sued for all striking miners to return

Lewis declared in his letter, "is not a

. With all of the liver-cleansing and
system-purifying qualities of the old-
style calomel, but robbed of its sicken-
ing and dangerous effects, Calotabs has
become the most popular as well as the
most- useful of all home remedies. For
biliousness, constipation and indiges-
tion it is indispensable, for nothing but
calomel will straighten out a disordered
liver.
One tablet at bedtime with a swallow
of water—that’s all—no taste, no grip-

your liver is active, your system puri-

hearty appetite. Eat what you please

Genuine Calotabs are never sold in

Austin, Tex., July 18.—That the Dean
liquor law is unconstitutional because
of failure to publish notices of the
prohibition amendment to the consti-
tution at least three months before the
date set for the election is the con-
tention of Sam B. Dickens, Austin at-
torney, who announced Tuesday he
will raise that point in the trial of sev-
eral liquor law violation cases in which
he is attorney for the defendants.
Dickens pointed out that the election
of the prohibition amendment was held
on May 24, 1919, and he has “affidavits
and proof that the ’ proposed amend-
ment was not published at least three
months before the election in at least
fifteen bounties of the state.”
Should this contention be sustained
by the courts, the Dean law will fail,
as did the proposed highway amend-
ment, and all convictions under the
Dean law will accordingly be nullifed.

Mexicali, Lower Calif., July 18.— Re-

activities was expected today after a
hiatus of nearly four days, since the'

when three persons were killed and
several wounded.
Orders came from Mexico City last
