Mr Dover said the test results
came back last week and were below

April construction got a boost with
the construction of New Hope
Baptist Church. The new church on
North Ellis has 3,200 square feet of
space. Construction totaled $74,450
in April.
The month of May recorded
$38,000 in new construction. The
largest job was a new swimming
pool at Country Inn.
GTE had the largest building
permit in July in Giddings. They
replaced a diesel tank at their
downtown office at a cost of $73,000.

He gave detailed information
about the incident and descriptions
from witnesses of the suspect and his
car.
The man was identified as a white
male about 5 ft. 10 inches tall with a
mustache. He was wearing a tie and
was dressed nicely.
He drove off alone in a late model
grey-colored Oldsmobile 98 with no
license plate, said Mr. Jatzlau, who
told the sheriff’s office that the
suspect was last seen driving south
on FM 141 towards Giddings.
The Lee County Sheriff's Depart-
ment dispatcher Linda Ward alerted
Sheriff Joe Goodson and deputy
Robertson in Giddings about the
incident at 11:56a.m.
Off-duty deputy Jim Clampit was
listening to the police radio at his
home in north Giddings and
immediately left to help try to
apprehend the armed robbery
suspect.
And Game Warden Bobby Bartlett
was in his car on FM 141 near the
Claude Flippin ranch when he heard
Kwik Car Wash, located at 437
West Austin in Giddings, was
burglarized twice in the past two
weeks, reported Giddings Police.
Approximately $800 in quarters
were taken in the two burglaries
from coin-operated machines
Owner of the car wash, Michael
Knight, said the first burglary
occurred sometime over Christmas
weekend. During this time period
someone pried open the coin box to
one of the vacuum cleaners at the
car wash. Police officer Steve
Farwell reported that the other two
vacuum cleaner coin boxes had pry
marks, but had not been opened.
Then between 11 a.m and 7 p.m.

The teller told sheriff's deputies
that the suspect said he had a
partner in the car outside who was
monitoring the radios and for the
bank employees not to put out an
alarm. The suspect was also
wearing a radio with an earphone in
his ear. This turned out to be a police
scanner, said Deputy Robertson.
As soon as the man left the bank,
bank officer Tommy Jatzlau
followed him outside to try to
identify the getaway car and to see
in what direction he left Dime Box.
He then went back inside and
employees set off the burglar alarm
while Mr Jatzlau then called 911 to
the Lee County Sheriff’s Depart-
ment.
