of the district, at an election as provided by General Law for
bond elections, the question as to whether or not the indebtedness
mentioned in the next preceding section, or any part
thereof, shall be assumed and paid off by the Megargel County
Line Independent School District. If at the election held for
that purpose a majority of the votes cast are in favor of the assumption
of said indebtedness by said district, then such indebtedness
shall become valid and subsisting obligations of
said Megargel County Line Independent School District, and
said district shall be authorized to annually thereafter levy,
assess and collect taxes for the liquidation of the same as provided
by the General Laws. The pro rata part of such indebtedness
to be assumed by said district shall be determined in
proportion as the assessed value of the real property taken
from the district incurring such indebtedness bears to the assessed
value of the real property remaining in such district
after the territory included in this district was taken therefrom.
SEC. 12. The Megargel County Line Independent School
District, hereby created, shall be chargeable with all outstanding
indebtedness created by said district as the same heretofore
existed, and all contracts for the maintenance of the
schools in said district for the current year are hereby continued
in force for the purposes and time which they are to run.
Said district shall have the power to levy and collect taxes to
pay said indebtedness and to carry out said contracts, and if
the district hereby created assumed the indebtedness of that
portion of the former district excluded by this Act, then this
district shall be liable for said indebtedness and such excluded
territory released therefrom.
SEC. 13. If a petition signed by a majority of the qualified
resident voters of the territory of any common school
district, or any portion of such territory, adjacent to this district,
shall be filed with the board of trustees of this district,
requesting that such territory shall be added to this district,
such territory shall become a part of this district provided a
majority of the board of trustees of this district shall approve
same. If any person who owns land in a common school
district, which land is adjacent to this district, shall petition
for the annexation of his land to this district the same shall
be received and become a part of this district, provided the
trustees of this district shall approve the same. The purpose
,of this provision is to permit the Megargel County Line Independent
School District created by this Act, to annex territory
and extend its boundaries in the manner herein provided without
any limitation whatever as to the area or territory to be included
in said district because of such annexations and extensions.
The territory so added to said district if taken from
any other district having an outstanding bonded indebtedness
shall remain and continue chargeable with its pro rata share
tof such indebtedness, but the Megargel County Line Independ-
