Laura Bush, wife of Texas Governor George W. Bush, will be guest
speaker at the Kendall County Republican Women’s Lincoln Day
Luncheon Tuesday, Feb. 14.
A native of Midland, Laura Welch Bush was raised and educated in
Texas. She holds a bachelor of science degree in education from
Southern Methodist University as well as a master’s degree in library
science from the University of Texas at Austin.
She spent almost a decade in the Texas public education system
working as a librarian and elementary school teacher in Dallas,
Houston and Austin.
While teaching throughout the state, Bush has been active in her
local community. She has served as a member of the board of directors
of The Friends of the Dallas Public Library, the Dallas Zoological
Society, Child Protective Services Community Partners and Bryan’s
Friends, an auxiliary of Bryan’s House Home for Children with AIDS.
She married George W. Bush in 1977 and the couple are the parents
of 13-year-old twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna.
All members, guests and prospective members are encouraged to
attend the luncheon at Fair Oaks Country Club.
The event will begin with a social and cash bar at 11:30 with lunch
following at noon. The cost of the luncheon is $12.50, including tax
and gratuity.
To make reservations, mail a check for $12.50 to Kendall County
Republican Women, Box 12 2, Boerne, 78006. Friday, February 10 is
the deadline for reservations. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Friends of the Boerne Public
Library are ready again this year to
hold their annual book sale in the
Old Dance Hall at the Kendall
County Fairgrounds March 3-5.
Hours will be from noon until 5
p.m. Friday, March 3, Saturday,
March 4 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.,
and Sunday, March 5 from noon
until 5 p.m.
"This is a great way to recycle
books and wonderful bargains can
