Combing holidays

So, I’m in the grocery store yester-
day, minding my own business,
looking around and filling up my
basket with the things on my list. I
stooped over the cheese section and
as I rise up, I hit my head on what?
A Christmas wreath! Here it is
weeks before Thanksgiving, a cou-
ple of weeks after Halloween and
what is being pushed on us already?

combine a number of holidays into

We could easily combine Hal-

The secret of being truly thankful, sharing
“No man can really give thanks unless within
his heart he deeply feels that undeserved bless-
ings have been bestowed upon him. Our great
sin is our carefree assumption that we deserve
what God gives and that we are free to do with
it what we please.”—Calvin H. Wingert
I think that one of the most difficult things in
life is to be grateful for what we did NOT
expect, want or enjoy. Yet, most of our lives are
sprinkled with such events.
Since Thanksgiving is a time during which we
should be thankful, how do we go about thank-
ing God for negative things that happen to us?
How can a negative experience possibly make
us happy? To take this a step further, how should
we react to POSITIVE events that happen to us?
Should we merely enjoy them, or should we
show our gratitude by sharing our wealth with
others?
Let’s consider the negative aspect first. There
are times in our lives that we become so dis-
gusted, discouraged and overwhelmed that we
simply want to QUIT! Who would blame you?
On the other hand, who would care?
OK, not many would care, so it’s up to each
one of us to watch out for ourselves. While it is
true that no one is an island, it is still up to each
one to take care of oneself.
So you’ve had some not-so-pleasant experi-

A test ban we can all support
The United States and the world
are safer today because of the Sen-
ate’s decision Oct. 13 to not ratify
the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
This opens the door for renovating a
revised treaty - one that properly
guards U.S. Security and world
peace. Congress exercised its
responsibility under the Constitution
to withhold consent on treaties that

Dear Editor,
The Boerne Band Boosters would
like to thank the community of
Boerne for their tremendous support
for our annual Turkey Dinner Oct.
31. This is the first year we ran out
of turkey and dressing before 1:30
p.m.. and we would like to extend a
sincere apology to those whom we
had to refund tickets. You can be
assured we will increase the amount
of food prepared for next year.
A special thanks to:
H-E-B for donating all the fully
cooked turkeys. This reduced the
time it took to prepare the turkeys
and the cost. H-E-B’s generosity is
greatly appreciated.
The Classics Big Band for provid-
ing the excellent entertainment, an
added “treat” that was enjoyed by all
attending.
And thanks to all who made our
annual fund-raising event a success.
It will allow us to continue to sup-
port the outstanding Boerne ISD
band program.
Sincerely,
The Boerne Band Boosters
To The Thief Of My Greyhound
Banner:
A few weeks ago my husband pur-
chased a Greyhound banner in sup-
port of the booster club. We proudly
displayed it in front of our business
at River Road and Turner Street.
However, we no longer have it in our
possession, but rather the thief that
took it after dark Nov. 12, Friday
evening. In the event to the person
who took it, I hope you display it
with what ever pride you may have
deep within yourself. We do contin-
ue to support the Boerne High
School.
