Goat rock! What is it? It’s a state
of mind - it’s a style of music. It’s
the music of Jimmy Lee Jones and
the Texas Hill Country Band. Jimmy
Lee and the gang, which features
guitarist Steve Ammann, of Boerne,
have been spreading Goat Rock all
over Texas for the past 10 years,
including shows with some of their
friends such as Robert Earl Keen,
Billy Joe Shaver, Gary P. Nunn and
Willie Nelson. (Yes, that ole Red-
Headed Stranger himself). In fact,
Willie has invited them to play at his
Fourth of July picnic for the past six

August seems to be quite a
month for birthdays in the Nelson
City area. Belated birthday wishes
to Dennis Sundin.
Betty Hastings and the rest of
her card-playing gang got togeth-
er to celebrate the birthdays of
both Jenny Tilley and Genevieve
Seidensticker, of Waring. The
group met at the home of Peggy
Pyeatt where they enjoyed a deli-
cious oriental dish. Husbands
were invited so it was quite a gath-
ering. When I spoke to Betty
Sundin last Tuesday, she and hus-
band Dennis had just returned
from a wonderful trip to Canada.
They had flown to Calgary then
rented a car to enjoy several desti-
nations including Banff Lake
Louis and the ice fields near
Jasper. Betty told me the ice

fields, which were part of a glaci-
er, were beautiful. They rode in a
bus that looked like “a big Tonka
toy.” The couple rode in a gondo-
la to a buffet lunch at the top of the
mountain. They also enjoyed a
ride in a “more rustic” gondola at
Lake Louis. They were blessed
with beautiful days with only a lit-
tle rain.
Back home we would consider
rain a big blessing!
