InFO helps families of prison
inmates put lives back together
The Inmate Families Organization
is an educational, informational
organization for families of prison-
ers.
Having a close family member
incarcerated is one of the most trau-
matic events in one’s life. Emotions
run high....”I failed as a parent, I’m
so ashamed, I feel so alone, what
will my friends and neighbors think,
how will I explain the absence of
their other parent to my children?”
There is anger at your family mem-
ber for breaking the law and for
involving you in something that you
want no part of, “the wrong side of
the criminal justice system.”
You are not alone! Someone does
understand the pain!
One may ask, “Why do we need an
Inmate Families Organization?”
$ With approximately 155,000 incar-
cerated persons in the state of Texas
and 51 of these being from Kendall
County, (TDCJ statistics for 2000)
the families need to know that there
is an organization available for
them.

I'm so ashamed, I feel

friends and neighbors
think, how will I explain
the absence of their

children?”

Prisoner
All must be held accountable for
their actions and because of this
accountability there will always be a
for the families of prisoners that can
lend a sympathetic ear and extend a
helping hand to these families in
their time of great emotional pain. In
the past “kids from good homes” did
not grow up and go to prison, but
that no longer holds true. Now,
many professional, educated citi-
zens have a close family member
incarcerated. Families live daily
with the unfounded stigma of
“guilty by association” and “trashy
inmate families.”
InFO is a non-profit organization
dedicated to helping families put the
pieces back together and is not a
prison activist organization. For
