How to "PREPARE"
Tin Cans for Wir Duty
Your old tin cans are used to extract copper from low grade ore. This copper is
reclaimed through a process of shredding the tin cans and thus precipitating the
copper from the ore. The ratio is approximately 150 pounds of copper to each 0
pounds of shredded cons. Copper is the No. 1 critical metal so you can readily see the
value of tin cans to the war effort.

Flattened cans ora desirable for transportation pur-
poses but this is not necessary for cons that are to
be shredded. Dirty cons, rusty cons ....every
kind of tin is wonted so don't throw any away.
Save them for this once-a-month pick up!
Any kind of tin con is acceptable .... oil cons,
point cans, bright cons, rusty cons • • . EVERY CAN
ON THE PREMISES SHOULD BE TURNED IN. One
tin con is an insignificant thing but a months collec-
tion from an average family is a real contribution!
Flattened cans are desirable to facilitate transporta-
tion ... BUT IT IS NOT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY
THAT YOU DO THIS ... nor is it necessary to clean
and remove the labels. Just don’t throw them in
the garbage .. . SAVE FOR THE TIN CAN PICKUP!
Abilene soft drink bottling plants are cooperating
with the War Production Board, and will pick up cans
at McMurry Addition; North Park; Country Club Ad-
dition; Over Place, and suburbs of Abilene. Save
your cans. Do not mix them with other refuse. Co-
operate with the Tin Can Pick Up. Abilene has done
well, let us continue to cooperate in this worthwhile
salvage. This is a non-profit operation, carried an
by a patriotic citixenship as a contribution to the
over-all War Effort.
Clean your premises of all cans. Make a diligent
search for them. Get them out of the garages and
store houses. Put them in a paper sack, box, or
any other container and place them in front of your
home.
