Organization Named For
Late Herman Rochelle
HOUSTON.—On the completion of
the re-organization of the Chrispus
Attuck Post 521, the new set-up
was renamed in honor of the late
Herman Rochelle who heroically
gave his life in the Battle for Italy.
Pfc. Rochelle was awarded the
Silver Star posthumously for gal-
lantry in action on Feb. 5. 1945,
and the following statement was
made to his family in a letter of
condolence from the War Depart-
ment: •
"Private First Class Rachelle was
a member of a forward observer
party during a heavy engagement
against the enemy. With another
member of the party, he laid a wire
line under cover of darkness over
almost a mile of difficult terrain
sown with wire and covered by hos-
tile mortor fire.
"Enemy fire repeatedly cut the
line in the ensuing counter-attack
and Pfc. Rochelle returned each
time to restore communication in
full view of the enemy and with
utter disregard for his personal
safety under intense smalll arms
mortors and artillery fire.
“Upon returning from one of
these trips, he noticed a house about
200 yards away which was being
used as an enemy observation post
and strong point, securing a bazooka,
Pfc. Rochelle directed another man
to cover him with carbine fire while
he advanced to within 75 yards of
the house. He fired his bazooka into
the house causing six of the foe
to surrender with a radio, two tel-
ephones, a machine gun, and a num-
ber of rifles.

Medics Protest Ban
Against Negro Doctors
I CINCINNATI. — (ANP) — The
Southern Medical association's ban
against the attendance of Negro phy-
sicians at their annual convention
here has been protested by three lo-
cal white doctors, according to a
disclosure last Tuesday by C. P.
Loranz, the association’s secretary-
manager.
Their protest, he said, was in the
from of a telegram in which they ac-
knowledged an invitation to attend
the annual meeting but noted “with
distress that only white persons may
attend."
Democracy Betrayed
Branding the color barrier against
Negro medics as undemocritic, the
white doctors said.
“We would like to point out that
in this community Negro physicians
enjoy full parity with white phy-
sicians. Since your meeting is called
a victory meeting, we feel that all
groups of the American people who
have made victory possible should
be allowed to participate. To show
racial discrimination is in our Opin-
ion contrary to the principles of
democracy for which this war was
fought and won."
Reveals Jim Crow
Loranz replied that “the Sccthern
Medical association restricts mem-
bership and attendance at annual
meetings to white physicians. No
officers have the authority to change
that.
"Negro physicians may enjoy full
professional parity with white phy-
sicians in Cincinnati," but they do
not in the south or within the
Southern Medical association," the
secretary-manager concluded.

For the goal is based on urgent
necessity to ward off a threatened
post-war upsurge of an incredibly
destructive scourge. The Houston
Anti-Tuberculosis League board of
directors has carefully studied needs
for county-wide health work and
disease fighting during the year
ahead. ,
Remember that Christmas Seals
represent a distinctive kind af hu-
manitarian service; while they ben-
efit your sick and TB-threatened
neighbor, they benefit your own
family as well. For tuberculosis not
merely is the other man’s enemy. It
is * real enemy of your own house-
hold.
Seals, remember that they already)
lave been the means to mighty ends.”
